Does anyone know anything about Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, Indiana?

it accepts about 70% of applicants.
it's mostly male (82%). the town is boring (according to the students--i've never been).
90% of students are white.
the campus is conservative.
it's about half-and-half in-state/out-of-state students.

the SAT score ranges for the middle 50% of students are 640-720 for math, and 570-680 for verbal (that means 25% of accepted applicants had scores below those ranges, and 25% had scores above those ranges)

thanks for the help! what schools do you recommend?

well, i can't recommend anything because you haven't given me any criteria. what are you looking for in a school? what are your interests and how have you done in high school?

if you're interested in Rose, try HMC.

What's HMC? and my Stats are:

SAT=2000
ACT= 30
SAT II us history = 750 math lvlII (freshman year) = 630
Varsity cheerleading
National Honor Society
Class Offices
numerous summer programs
4.0 GPA
3/560
considerable community service
ect.

Harvey Mudd College. Rose is an engineering LAC. Harvey Mudd is also a LAC that's about 40% engineering.

Based on your stats you'd have a good chance at getting into Rose and a decent shot at HMC. Although you should try to boost up the test scores a little bit.

Swarthmore also has excellent engineering for a LAC if you want a more standard LAC.

Do female and minority status have a significant impact on my stats?

Take a look at Olin.

And yes, if you're going into engineering being female will help a bit. So could being a minority, depending on what your ethnicity is.

she's hispanic (gotta love the search tool :D)

Hispanic from a border town. I've heard Olin is super hard to get into and there non conventional admission process kinda scares me; any advice?

Olin is hard to get into, but you won't know unless you try.

What part of the process scares you? Candidates' Weekend is the most obvious difference between the process at Olin and the process at other schools, but that tends to be a really great experience.

Oh man, being a minority girl changes it. You'll definitely get into Rose, probably get into HMC, and you have a decent shot at Olin. If you can raise your test scores you will have a very good chance anywhere. If I were you, I would also apply to MIT, Caltech, Stanford and Berkeley.

Rose turns out top engineers.

Think very carefully about going to Rose before you take the plunge. It is very challenging, and if you can't get a 3.0 GPA (which is actually pretty damn hard to get) you will be lucky to get much of anything out of career fairs or go to graduate school.

Honestly, going to an "easy" college might benefit you more because recruiters will still generally consider a 3.01 from a school with an average student body to be superior to a 2.97 from a top-tier school, regardless of how much more effort the 2.97 took. It's also a helluva lot larger investment than most other schools...

Don't think you'll have any sort of easy time if your SAT scores are high, either. A lot of people can answer questions within a reasonable time limit and when the answers are right on the page; answering several pages of free-response in 50 minutes is a completely different story.

Also, a lot of nerds can do work well on their own; you will get killed in almost any major at Rose if you're not extremely good at groupwork.
