What about the sidewalks?

I'm a pretty big skater, so quality of sidewalks is very important in my college decision process.

Are the Princeton sidewalks generally smoothly paved? Are there rules against skating on campus?

Also, as a side question, are there any sheltered bike racks (ones under an overhand for example) on campus? Id hate to park my bike where its too exposed to the elements.

Thank you.

Hahahah I love this question. Yeah, they’re actually really good sidewalks…some cobblestone, but less than you’d see at Harvard and other similar colleges. Don’t know about rules regarding skating…but I do know that people bike & rollerblade to class. There are tons of bike racks, but not any sheltered ones that I know of.

There are many sheltered bike racks around campus. One I can think of on the top of my head is the one by the Dinky and Wawa. There are others though, too…

odd that you should ask this… i recently visited campus and specifically remember seeing two or three people (students? town kids?) skating around the Woodrow Wilson school building.

This year, I’ve seen a lot more students getting around on skateboards, longboards, roller blades, and even razor scooters than I did last year. You can definitely get around on wheels.

There are also several covered bike racks I can think of, and there are plenty of other overhangs where people leave their bikes set on their kickstands.

Excellent sidewalks (and possibly the best CC thread question ever)!

Thanks for the responses!

Obviously I’m not deciding my college based on skate-friendliness (lol i already commited…), but its good to know before lugging my longboard cross country.

Bear in mind that there might not be super-convenient sheltered bike racks near /your/ dorm, but I know of at least a couple. And I do occasionally see people skating…
