What does everyone think about Wake Forest? Reputation? Difficulty of getting in? Student life there? Quality of education? What about in comparison to UNC?

Has a solid reputation in the south. Well liked by those I've met who attend. Not too big. Easier to get into than UVA or UNC (if out of state at those public schools). The kids we know who recently got in are bright but not top of the class.

thanks! any other thoughts about wake? Is it really just a bunch of rich white kids??? Do you think you get a better quality education at wake or unc?

WhoKnows Wake Forest is a well respected university in the South. It has many good programs and is a bit easier to get into then the heavy hitters in the south Duke, UVA and UNC - Chapel Hill (if out of state for the latter two).

The life at Wake consists mainly of fraternities and greek life. It is mostly white southerners and that does make few minorities stop thinking about the school pretty fast. However if you told someone you are going to Wake Forest University say in the Northeast or even the Western parts of the countries many would give you a blank stare. That is because Wake's mainly known in the South.

A reason for the responses is because Wake's grading system is said to be very very hard. The grading system at Wake Forest is about as rough as I've heard. This in turn creates lower grade point averages but the main problem is that not many employers know of this harsh grading system and consequential low gpa's. I know a few people that have graduated from Wake and had very tough times getting into graduate school because of the grading system and low gpa's.

I say if you have the grades and the scores try for UVA or UNC-Chapel Hill. Their reputations are more well known and are recognized names throughout the country. Wake Forest I would consider a good school but with some drawbacks that I personally don't feel outweigh the positives you make your opinion.

Wake is a very solid university. I live in North Carolina, and around here, you'd be well looked upon for having gone to Wake, but UNC and Duke are generally considered the 'big ones'. I'd apply to Wake, but...I've lived in the south for the past 16 years of my life, and I want out.

Many Wake Forest graduates refer to their school as "Work Forest." That should tell you something about what is expected of students. Duke is in a league of its own -- it is pretty much the equivalent of HYPS etc. I would take Wake over UNC-Chapel Hill. UNC has a wider gap between its best and its worst students than does Wake.

So overall it has mixed reactions. You have seen the ups and the downs. Duke is perhaps the most prestigous university in all of the South. Actually no, Duke is the most prestigious university in the south. Wake Forest would be considered a solid school however, I would not put it on the same level as Duke or even UNC. Although UNC has a broader range of students in terms of academics I know for a fact that UNC's reputation is more well known then that of Wake Forest's. I personally wouldn't like that workload and as I previously mentioned its effects. It is a good school but you need to decide if it is for you!

These guys are going to win the NCAA tournament this year. Their front court lead by potential NBA lottery pick Chris Paul is the best in the nation.

I think you mean back court Joev. ;) Good luck this year, the ACC is as strong at the top as its ever been (Wake, G Tech, UNC, Duke and UMD).

Wake, #1. If I had to rank the colleges nationally: Duke (duh), UNC and Wake tied, and Davidson (I don't think it's very well-known). In the South, I think they're all tied. If you attended any of the schools, they are immediately recognized, and respected. In the Northeast, that's another story... Duke all the way (in terms of recognition, etc.)
