what about when scholarship and financial aid are not enough?

with scholarship and financial aid, i still have to pay $20,000 at the least
i don't know what to do, my parents EFC is pretty high but they can't pay for me, so i'll be stuck with loans

It’s a sad story, but it’s the truth, and it applies to a great many things…when you can’t afford “something”, and you don’t want to borrow money to pay for “something”, you need to find a less expensive “something” which you can afford.

Sorry, I know it’s not what you want to hear. But it holds true for houses, cars, colleges, steak dinners, and sneakers.

Get a part time job during the school year and work full time during summer months. Make up the rest with loan. Maybe you can beg and squeeze a little more out of your parents too. If you show good effort on your part, your parents are probably more likely to help. It’s not going to be easy, but I have heard a lot worse stuff that people have to go through for college. Good luck.

I think that depending on your major & your area of study you might consider taking a year or 2 of GE classes at a JC, saving a huge amount of $ during those years $ then transferring. I know it’s not the same as ‘going away’ to school & all that goes with that but then when you finish school you won’t have to work for 5-10 years paying back all those loans. There are some great jc’s & if you look around you can find some that reallly have great specialty depts( like photography) that you would only expect at a 4 yr school. just a thought
