I got to say that today is a very interesting day to me!
Coming back from school, I got an email from UC Davis that invited me to apply to be on the wait list. I was really disappointed for not getting accepted. It just bothered me that I wasn’t accepted to UCD. It was not so much that I love UCD, but if I can’t even get in UCD, I definitely can’t get into a elite school.
But then, there was the surprise. I got in to Caltech!!!
Still don’t really get why this happened, but I am beyond happy!!!
SAT: 2230
SAT II: Math II 800, Physics 790, Biology 770
AP: 5’s on Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, Psychology;
4’s on US History and American Literature
GPA: 3.89 UW, and 4.2 (?) W
@MsSunday: son is at Caltech; he didn’t get into Berkeley but got into Caltech when no one at his school or district got in. They are admitting more female students with high stats and STEM majors.
Actually, the UCs have some specific financial circumstances this year, @yikesyikesyikes and @marvin100. It seems that the state of California doesn’t have money to educate its own high school seniors. So there is a finite number of spots for in-state students. See comment 21 on the thread called How Did I Get Waitlisted at Davis? I’ll try to link it:
I’m not an expert on this, @yikesyikesyikes . I just connected the dots between the two threads! We did read a little more about this on other news websites once we came across the story. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out and how many get offers off the waitlist in the end.
