For some colleges (I think Columbia is one), there is an EC supplement phrased so that you should write about the EC “you are most proud of.” If I already wrote about my most important EC as a part of my common app essay, what should I write about here? I don’t want to just rehash what I already said, but I don’t know how they’d view it if suddenly I had a different EC that I was “most proud of.”
Well, you know you can word this to differentiate one essay from another. Just remember neither needs to be literal. They do, however. need to be relevant to what adcoms want to see in you.
Well, I just don’t think it’d be productive covering the same EC again, when I could be telling the adcoms something else about me, but that something else just isn’t the EC I’m most proud of…
You can always say something like: Other than XYZ which I discussed in my essay, the activity I am most proud of is…
One of my kids did a different Common App essay for that one college in that situation. It made for the strongest application.
Agree, you may want to revisit the CA essay idea, ensure it’s relevant. A lot of kids take the prompts so literally they forget the context is an admissions review. You need to know what the schools value.
And for top schools, ideally, there are a number of activities you can be “most” proud of, each for its own reasons.
You have to be flexible with your CA essays. Many schools will have supplement about EC. You have limited spaces to sell yourself. You don’t want to address the same EC twice.
True. Now that I look back at it, Columbia is the only school with the question worded as “most proud of”, while the others just ask for an elaboration on an EC.
