What ACTUALLY happens during RUSH?

I'm so confused. All my life I've thought "I'll NEVER join a sorority in college." That was because I was so afraid of the hazing. But does that actually happen at every school? Are you forced to get drunk and do ridiculously humiliating things in order to be accepted into one? I know it's probably a secret what they do, but if someone could please give me a basic idea that would be great. I just really want to know whether I have the slightest chance of trying to get into a sorority. Thanks!

Sorority rushing generally almost never involves what you’re describing. And in fact, sorority rush is a fairly structured process in which you visit all (if not most) sororities at your school. I’m not the best person to speak about this since I’m in a fraternity, but there are definitely some girls on this board that would know more.

going to vary from school to school and chapter to chapter. Rush is very different from hazing. NO ONE will haze during rush since that’s before you’ve committed to them at all. Unfortunately some chapters still haze but there are plenty that don’t. Head over to greekchat.com where people can address your school specifically.

Sorority rush is usually very structured but since I am a guy from a small greek system I can’t give you details on how it works since I don’t really know.

Also note that rushing and pledging and two different things. I think you meant pledging.

I’m in a sorority at my school. I did informal rush, which meant I just attended a few events put on by a few houses shortly after formal recruitment.

But anyways, I do know about formal recruitment at my school. For us it takes place the first two weekends after class begins. The first two days are open houses where you go to every single house on campus. It’s very casual, and you’re given a rush t shirt to wear with shorts. Then theres an invite round that Sunday where you go to your top choice houses. The following weekend is another invite and preference rounds. Each round expects you to narrow down your list of houses. After preference, you rank your top three houses and hopefully you get a bid from them! Then there’s usually a ceremony sometime afterwards where you officially become a pledge of that organization.

Unfortunately, I’ve heard some hazing rumors at my school about different sororities. I am unaware of the validity of such rumors. However, my pledgeship had no such hazing. We just had to learn things about my chapter and fellow sisters. Nothing too ridiculous.

Thanks so much! Is there any way I can prevent getting caught in hazing activities?

^^By saying “no”.

Geddy Lee greets the crowd, they play some of the classics and some of the newer stuff, good times.
