What advice would you want from an older student?

How’s the application season going for everyone? I haven’t been on this forum for the past few years, but I had a question for you all. If you were getting advice from someone who’s already gone through the whole college app process, what kind of stuff would you want them to tell you about? Specific advice about applications or essays? How to get scholarships? Eventual major/career path? College life in general?

I’m asking because I signed up to be a mentor to high school students, probably seniors. They’ll give us some topics to talk about with our groups, and I can think of some general advice, but it’s been over 5 years for me at this point since I applied to college and in retrospect I did a lot of things wrong so I’m not sure I’m qualified for this haha.

So if you were getting advice from an older student (I’m a first year medical student at the moment) what kinds of things would you ask? I’ll try to help you out on this thread if I can, and your responses will help me get ideas on what to talk about for this mentoring thing.
