What all colleges should I be applying to.

Hello all,

I wanted a bit of information about what colleges I should give a shot in order to be on the safe side. My stats are;

Sat 1: 2060, Critical: 640, Writing: 700, Math: 720
Sat 2: 2270, Math 1: 740, Math 2: 750, Physics: 780 (calculator malfunction on the SAT)
Toefl iBT: 117

Spent life in remote areas till grade 7 (Madhya Pradesh in India and Lagos in Nigeria)
Met with an accident in grade 10, no school for six months and 10th class percentage was a measly 82.4 %. Joined FIIT-JEE then, class 11 percentage: 95.53 %.
This imposed bedrest essentially ensured no stellar extracurrics made their way into my bio. The recovery period went in class 11. Currently I attend a LUG and do podcasting for them. I also am a member of the LUG's school division.

Well this is not intended to be a 'will I get into <insert college="" name="">' question. Unfortunately my knowledge of universities is limited to a few elite ones (MIT, Caltech etc.) and my stats are not all that impressive. I would like to have a resonable list of colleges to apply to so that at the end of grade 12 I won't be left without any admissions. Can anyone put forward a few reasonable colleges that would give me good research opportunities so that I would have a better chance of making it to the elite colleges for my Master's Degree ?</insert>

We can't give you anything helpful unless we know more about what you want in a college. What do you want to study? Do you want a large or small school? Urban or rural? Do you need financial aid? What kind of social atmosphere appeals to you?

ok. I would like to study CS. Small schools would be preferred. It would be better if they were located in urban areas. Financial aid would certainly be appreciated. When it comes to social atmosphere, I would like a geeky atmosphere around me, I don't think I can adjust with a crowd that emphasises on partying excessively.

I don't really know off the top of my head, but I might suggest you go to the Princeton Review website and use their College Match tool (or something like that). It won't give you correct chances, but it'll give you a long list of schools to research and think about.

Good luck!
