Caucasian girl from MI (want to go into engineering)

3.7 unweighed, 4.3 weighted GPA (most rigorous courseload available at a top public school) [3.9 UW/4.6 W not including freshman year (upward trend after 9th grade)]
31 ACT (just took the June one, expecting 34-35)
took Math II & Physics SAT subject test - expecting high 700s for Math II, low 700s for Physics (might retake Physics)

solid ECs (two sports, robotics, yearbook, speech team, NHS) and leadership (Editor-in-Chief of yearbook, leader of a community service/relief organization)

good recs (physics teacher and counselor, who both love me)
great essays (I'm a good writer, and I'll have all summer to go them/am basing them off of intruiging topics)

what colleges should I be considering? I'd like some ideas for matches, safeties, as well as reaches! thanks in advance! :)

University of Michigan is probably a match, is highly regarded for various engineering majors, and should be relatively less expensive for you as a Michigan resident than most other schools.

Definitely consider Georgia Tech. I’d consider it a match, especially if your ACT goes up.

Case Western, URochester, Carnegie Mellon are matches. MIT isn’t out of the question (high reach).

thanks guys!

annasdad, i’m actually a legacy at CMU. and i hear the acceptance rate for females is almost double the general one, so i just might apply there. what do you think my chances for Northwestern are?

^(acceptance rate at MIT)

The other question you need to figure out is to estimate which are likely to be affordable in terms of net cost after non-loan financial aid. Your safeties should be safe both for admission and financial purposes.

Northwestern

Reach for just about everyone. 44% of 2011 applicants had ACT composites of 32 or above. Their yield (% of accepts who enroll) was significantly higher than predicted last year and this.
