I will be going to Carnegie Mellon Tepper in the fall and was wondering which ap courses would provide me with credit at Tepper assuming I get a qualifying score.
Exams I Have Taken/Will Take:
ap human geography
ap physics 1
ap lang
ap psychology
ap environmental science
ap lit
ap gov
ap calc bc
ap computer science a
I am curious because I want to prioritize the way I study for my exams or if none of the exams would provide credit, then I could stop stressing
That’s the published CMU policy. If you are questioning it, the only real way to answer your question is to contact the registrar’s office. Good luck!
This is generally a waste of time and money, and not a guarantee of a good grade, if the student is prepared to move forward. Get old tests and find out if you’re ready. If so, it’s a huge advantage on many fronts.
Depends on the kid - hence i said it’s personal preference.
It was mentioned to my son on the student panel at Colorado School of Mines - the students there said re-take your math/science. Of course my son didn’t because kids aren’t going to throw away free credits.
I think there’s a better way to describe it than personal preference. That’s too subjective and easily swayed by the opinion, usually uninformed, of others.
There is a way to KNOW. Follow the advice @ucbalumnus described to my son. Get old tests and syllabi for the classes you’ll be skipping. Take them, timed. If it’s all foreign, repeat. If it’s a breeze, move forward. Rusty…brush up on Kahn over the summer.
AP tests started May 3 and go through June 11. My D22 had the second of her five this morning.
OP - “What I’ve heard”, “my friends told me”, “someone said”, and the like are often red flags for false information. If you don’t believe what CMU says about AP credit at CMU, you’re better off contacting CMU and explaining why you think CMU information about CMU policy is wrong.
Or incomplete information. For example, CMU requires an AP score of 5 in many cases, 4 in some others, to get subject credit. “Someone” who did not get credit may have gotten a lower score than required.
