What are Amherst students like?

I wanted to know what the students are like at Amherst and what kind of person would fit in there.

Amherst has the latest enrollment of 1,849 students from 48 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and 54 countries. It consists of 50% women, 50% men and 45% that identify as students of color. International students in the student body is 9%. In other words, quite diversified in terms of gender, geography and diversity. Given the data, I’m sure no one can confidently come out to tell you that “Amherst students are " and "_ kind of person would fit right in there.” Like anywhere else, you will find those who lean conservative and those that lean liberal and those of all shades of sexual makeup. It is up to you to find your social niche and support group no matter where you find yourself in.

Like @TiggerDad says, there are all sorts of people here at Amherst. Some qualities that most people I’ve met have in common: intelligence, passion, and an interesting story.

Is there a common website that gives a per state breakdown for FY students/enrolled class at specific schools? I often look on college profile pages but only see total states represented or, at best, regional breakdowns.

Students at Amherst are wildly diverse. I would make the bold claim that most anyone can find their niche here. We have athletes, nerds, international students, geeks, loners, POC, LGBT, you name it, we have it. So there is not one type of person that fits in here.

Amherst is the most diverse small elite college in the nation. The only common thread is that everyone is very smart./

@ProfessorMom1 - Amherst puts out a report. The most current one I could find is First-Year Students in the Class of 2019: https://www.amherst.edu/media/view/625467

Found for the class of 2020: https://www.amherst.edu/system/files/media/Amherst%2520College%2520SSR%2520Class%2520of%25202020.pdf
