<p>What is the likelihood of winning a merit scholarship to some of the top schools? What are the criteria by which they are awarded? Are top grades, perfect SATs,National Merit, and leadership in extracurriculars enough? What else are schools looking for?</p>
<p>The very top schools don’t have merit aid. At all. Like the Ivys and that sort.</p>
<p>^That. The highest schools in the USNWR that give merit aid are Duke and Chicago at #9. That is still pretty damn high, but Ivies, Stanford and the ITs don’t give it out (well, Stanford for athletics and MIT for music but that doesn’t seem to be what you’re looking for)</p>
<p>Harvey Mudd gives out merit aid.</p>
<p>And Duke only gives out one type of award…the Robertson Scholarship, and what you described won’t be enough to get you that full-ride. You need to be absolutely extraordinary.</p>
<p>Rice, Rochester and Tulane are good with merit aid.</p>
<p>Rice is FANTASTIC with merit aid. Pretty darn affordable for its quality. (:</p>
