What are college dorm parties like? Is there grinding and stuff (which I love, but I"m a grade ahead and won't turn 18 till spring of freshman year, so for the majority of my first year I can't get into clubs :( )? What kind of music do they play? Do people dance or anything or just drink and talk and listen to music?
Sorry to sound like a square..I'm not in college yet so I don't know..lol

It depends. I've been to parties where there isn't any music, and it's basically a mosh pit of too many people in too small of an apartment, where everyone's just talking and drinking.

I've also been to parties where they play drinking games for the first few hours, then open up a dance floor, which goes on for the rest of the night. It really just depends on where you go. I went to one party where they just played country music the whole time (which I love, but it's not really dance-and-grind kind of music).

...college DORM parties? No such thing, at least where I'm from. The most partying you'll see in a dorm is a couple of students drinking quietly in their room when there's nothing else to do. Most, if not all parties, are off campus, in apartments and houses.

And it kind of depends on what school you go to. I've met people from other campuses who say that pretty much all they did at their parties was dance (ie, grind). Here, though, no dancing. Or, if there is, it's one or two really drunk girls looking ridiculous. Most parties are just people listening to music, talking, and playing drinking games until the keg runs out.

As people above said, there are no 'dorm parties.' People may "pre-game" (drink before actually going out to get a buzz going on) or quietly drink in dorms, but most campuses are serious about alcohol violations. That being said, parties can range from a small apartment party to a huge frat party. I go to a school that's very greek (although I'm not in a sorority) so my friends and I usually go to frats, which usually go like this: it's like an awkward middle school party for the 1st hour, then the alcohol kicks in and people talk/play drinking games/ dance. Rinse & repeat weekly

Sometimes people will have a game of beer pong going on in their room with up to 10-12 people hanging out, but any more than that and it gets really crowded so most parties are off-campus or in fraternities. Drinking in dorms like above posters have said usually is to pre-game going out, or simply to just chill with a few friends.

Dorm parties tend to be people just relaxing and chilling. Not really drinking much. More socializing. It's more friends-only, probably for the best. You can put on music and dance for sure if it's in this context if your friends are comfortable with you dancing.. I can't say my friends are okay with it. haha. And for me, it's always crazy techno or rap/rock/indie that we are playing.

it depends where you go to school I think. In the states I can see there not being any dorm parties, but in Canada where atleast half the freshman are of legal drinking age dorm parties are all over the place. if nothing is going on in your dorm, you just need to cruise around to the other dorms and follow the loud music! there arent any no alcohol rules in the dorms, just no open containers in the hallways. drinking in rooms, bathrooms, lounges, ect is totally fair game.

all the parties with music that ive gone to have been nothing but grinding. its kinda hard not to when there's 25 people crammed into a dorm room haha

theres also people that are just hanging out the the lounges on each floor drinking in a more chill environment

There are dorm parties sometimes at my school but they are pretty low key. The best parties are off campus in apartments and houses. The best parties I have ever been to are when I go to a friends party where all my friends will be along with friends of friends. Drinking games, dancing, music, and people talking usually all happening at the same time.

At my school, the frats live in dorm "sections" so section parties in dorms have drinking and dancing. Most schools aren't like this though.

The really fun parties are the ones where you know alot of people, there are drinking games and dancing going on (in different areas obviously) and no sketch looking dudes hitting on you. Rarely do all of these things happen at the same time, however.

My campus is "dry" thus no dorm parties. Frats have parties at their houses but I'm not into that whole scene. Normally, it is a party in a house/duplex/condo/apartment off-campus. I went to a party Friday in a duplex where there were two beer pong tables in the backyard with a keg, another keg and a tub of hunch punch in the kitchen, and music/dancing in the living room at the front (music wafting through to the back). There were probably 100 people there at any one point, lots of people in the backyard (until the 20-minute-long rainstorm at 2am... when the kitchen quite suddenly became very crowded), less people in the music area.
Smaller parties, you have less beer pong (although some people I know leave their table up at all times and there is continuous beer pong at their house pretty much every night), more card games like circle of death, drunk driver, and f--k the dealer. And more recently, drunk Rock Band/Guitar hero. Also at smaller parties there is more "hey who wants shots of tequila?!" and 7 or 8 people taking one together. However, less dancing at smaller parties too (due to less room, usually).

College parties can be crazy or they can be lame and boring! It is all about who is throwing the party and what people are going. The college parties I've been too, have been nuts and full of some hot wild college chicks that like to get down to business. & Then there are always those fights that break out and cannot forget about smashed windows.

Depends who you're partying with.

At one party I went to, which was with all journalism majors, all we did was hang out and talk and goof off.

At another party I went, the guys invited porn "stars" (I doubt they were "stars" in their wondrous profession considering they were in Plattsburgh of all places) to the hockey field house, got drunk, and taped themselves having sex with them and infuriated the administration. One guy supposedly lost his virginity at the party.

Two extremely different parties, as you can see.

...Agreed.

you accidentally make eye contact with them from across a crowded room & give them a polite smile because the accidental eye contact is slightly awkward

and then they SWOOP DOWN ON YOU

i was just wondering cause a few people have told me when they first met me i was kind of intimidating (probably because of my somewhat grungy look) and im starting to wonder if i should change it up because im the complete opposite of intimidating in my opinion. i dont want first looks to send people running away from me!

i know what sketchy is in terms of attitude/actions, but in terms of looks im kinda lost. except for those kids that try to act all gangster and hard...and the redneck kids that like to break ****. i put both of those into the sketchy class.

i way too passive to randomly walk up to a girl and start hitting on her anyway :)
if they are interested they can initiate the convo, seems to work well for the most part so far

At my school:

Dorm parties: very small, with friends (everyone knows everyone) crammed into one tiny room getting drunk. Often drinking games, music/dancing, or just chilling and watching a movie. Depends...

Frat parties: huge, people mostly stick to their own friends, crowded hot dance floor, beer pong

House parties: vary. Some: shady, crowded, with a keg or 2 and beer pong. Sometimes dancing/music. Others: small, more similar to dorm parties. Everyone knows everyone, can be chill or crazy depending on the group of friends
