What are colleges with good environmental science programs?

I am a senior in high school and I am interested in pursuing a major in environmental science or ecology or something along those lines. I am currently looking at Clemson University and University of Miami but I feel like I could be overlooking a school that is a perfect fit for me. I'm looking for colleges with a great environmental science/ecology/natural resources program that has a lot of hands-on learning and is more environmentally geared rather than just basic biology, physics and chemistry. I would prefer it to be located on the eastern half of the US (my parents don't want me too far from home) and not in a city. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you’re in marine ecology what about College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor Maine? All students major in Human Ecology. Small classes, hands on.

I second College Of The Atlantic. It’s an amazing school that not many people know about (not to mention that Bar Harbor and Arcadia are BEAUTIFUL).

But Clemson has an amazing environmental science program. Let me know if you have any questions!

Among the top LACs, Bowdoin has a very impressive environmental sciences program-breadth and depth. They also have a marine studies center, and an arctic studies center. And huge percentage of the students (over 60%) are into outdooring.

Bowdoin is SAT optional-but you need really good grades and recs. Take a look at their Common Data Set to see if you have a good shot.

[SUNY-ESF, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry](http://www.esf.edu/)

A lot of colleges fit that description, varying tremendously in size, location, and selectivity. We need more info.

[ul][]What are your stats? (GPA, SAT/ACT scores, etc.)

If you’re not sure what you can afford, run a few EFC calculators.

I would second SUNY ESF. The majors are very hands on and has a great enviroment if you don’t mind the cold.

Green Mtn. College in Poultney Vt. Check out their web site. Small and very “hands on”! They are in a beautiful little town in VT.
