Can you tell me what effect the size of your school has? and which category it's in?
-<2,000
-2,000-7,000
-7,000-15,000
->15,000

Also, do you usually include grad students in this number?

ex. My school has X students and because of this classes are usually Y, and we have Z opportunities that student at a different sized school wouldn't have. Also, the social scene for most students is W (ran out of variables),

My school has about 6000 students including grad students… The classes are usually around 12-15 students, and the largest I’ve had is about 30. We have quite a bit of student clubs/activities,including national chapters, intramural, greek life, and personal clubs…just with smaller enrollment levels then the big schools. However, I think our size impacts our school spirit (not so much) and there isn’t that typical “college experience party atmosphere”.

I attend a school that’s smaller than 2000, and there are DEFINITELY pros and cons.

On one hand… I love the academics. My classes are usually around 15 people, the professors are amazing and really care, and it’s a fairly rigorous but manageable workload. Plus, I can usually get the classes I want (although, since it’s such a small school, there’s a limited number of options in general.)

Also, at times it’s nice knowing everyone you’re with. And the school offers tons of opportunities to make a name for yourself and get involved, and it’s easy to find various opportunities or simply talk to someone in career services or another department if you are looking for something to get involved with. Knowing the professors so well leads to opportunities, too.

But, on the other hand… I would choose a bigger school if I could do it all over again. We don’t have much school spirit, the small environment is sometimes suffocating (you can’t escape people, and you see the same people everywhere), gossip is rampant, you cannot be anonymous, and it definitely doesn’t feel like a “typical college experience” atmosphere. The biggest complaint about my school is the social environment, and it’s because we’re so small.

My school has around 25,000 undergraduates and 7,000 graduate students. Classes generally range from 50-300 students, with some smaller and larger classes. The class sizes are not a big issue for me; I learn well in lectures and it’s easy to get some personal attention during office hours or discussion section if I need it. Because of its size, my school has a huge number of research/internship opportunities that a smaller school probably wouldn’t have. We have an insane amount of clubs and organizations (I think something like 500.) Overall, I’m really glad I go to a large school. The campus always has such a vibrant feel to it, and the larger population leads to more restaurants, buildings, and activities on campus. Also, Davis is a pretty small town, so during the school year students make up a huge portion of the population here; it really makes it feel like a college town.
