What are dorms like at Cornell

For current Cornell students, what are the dorms like where you are right now or were in.

I've stayed at 3 different ones:
Mary Donolon Hall (North Campus)- really social and pretty cool place. rooms were medium sized and it had a little study hall and library.
Cascadilla Hall (Collegetown)- kind of old but pretty nice
Gothic Houses (West Campus) my favorite because they buildings are small and cozy and the singles are a decent size

how about the showers in the dorms? i hate it when water trickles down really slowly.

were you in a single, double, or suite as a freshmen

as a freshman you can usually get a single. in fact this year some freshmen who requested doubles got singles.

the showers in my dorm are fine, i have two favories. #1 on the left has really hot water and #1 on the right has a nice shower head, haha.

please note that you can't pick your dorm unless you're living in special interest housing like JAM (music) or Ecology house, in which case you'll go into those buildings

I live in dickson. It's the largest dorm in the ivy league, w/ a few more than 500 residents, most of whom live in singles. The building is a large colonial (think those providence warehouses), with a bike room, computer lab, study lounges, billiards room, ping pong table, big screen TV, snack machines, steinway grand piano, laundry facility, kitchens, and proximity reading door locks to get in the building (just wave your wallet at the door rather than swipe a card or use a key)

the halls are very social because everyone comes out of their rooms to talk and chill because we have singles. it's a great place

I'm in the townhouses, which are the only dorms you can really pick as a freshman aside from the special interest housing. I like them; some people think they're anti-social but I haven't noticed that problem. I really like the privacy and really like having our own kitchen/only having to share a bathroom with 3 other people. The doubles here seem to be smaller than the doubles in dorms, though.

Do you share a bathroom with your floor or something

So basically as a freshmen they just stick you in whatever dorm and room style is available.

well there's a questionaire about single/double preference and single sex/coed preference, but beyond that, yeah. all the facilities on north campus are fairly similar (i mean it's a room, not a car, size is pretty much all that matters), and you can have a social time or a quiet time in any of the dorms.

How would you rank the dorms? Like party house to super studious? Or are all the dorms a combo of both?

It really all depends on who ends up near you, especially in the suite style dorms. That said, if you have a single/don't mind the library then you'll always be able to be the loser who studies all the time and doesn't go out, and regardless of where you live you'll always be able to find cool people to party with.

it all depends. there are rowdy townhouses and quiet portions of donlon (both uncharacteristic). it really depends on the people, which are random.

The townhouses, IMO, are better for partying than a lot of dorms; its MUCH harder to get caught in them.

yes there are communal bathrooms. I don't think there are any private bathrooms in any of the dorms, are there?

Are the bathrooms crowded in the morning or is it pretty well distributed so its not a problem

there are a few random students who got lucky and have a private bathroom. We have 6 showers for 36 guys (32 rooms) and I have never had to wait in line to shower before an 8, 9, 10, or 11 AM class. The only times i've been prevented from showering were because they were being cleaned. I just walked up a flight of stairs and showered in floor 4 or 5. So yeah, no difficulty there.

I cant believe people got private bathrooms

it's literally only a handful. They got put in handicapped suites but aren't handicapped...seriously...almost definitely fewer than 10 out of 3000+ freshmen.

6 showers to 36 guys seems like a lot. I guess people get up at a lot of different times

Or some people don't shower as often...? Lol.
