What are dorms like at Cornell

wow, I had no idea some rooms had their own bathrooms.

Anyway, I'm living in Court Hall. The are pretty much a suite, but instead of a common room, all of our rooms are linked to an alcove in the hallway. Like this:

............|..........|
Bath| Hall |.... Bath
|.........................|
/......................./ Double
|.........................|
|.........................|
/....................... / Single
|.........................|
/........................|
_____ ........ _____ Double
........|........|
........|........|

Eh, not fantastic, but you get the idea.

\ = doors (btw). . .AHH, CC formats my drawing weird, imagine the right wall pushed to the right.

So basically, 5 people per bathroom (2 doubles and a single) and never any problems, but if you're really in a hurry you could always ask to use the bathroom across the hall.

We have a study lounge and tv lounge and kitchen for every 30 people. The whole bottom floor is lounge area and our Faculty in Residence's appartment. (mostly lounge space), where we have a piano (not a steinway, but a pretty nice one), big screen TV, vending machines, huge program room (which usually pepole use it to study).

The layout makes it so you know people in your section really well, but I only really know my section of 30 people and the section on the 4th floor. I don't think we're as social as dickson, and our doors are annoying because I swear these things are spring loaded, you really have to ram a stopper under your door to keep it from closing. So only about half the people keep their doors open all the time. Awesome place to live though.

I live in mews hall and we have suites that have a single and two doubles. These 5 people share one clean and big (I'm 6'1 and could lie down in it) shower with two sinks and a toilet. Mews and Court/Bauer are by far the cleanest and nicest (think hotel like hallways), but the rooms are certainly not the biggest. I have a single and it is pretty nice, the corner suites are actually really big as well.
If I were to choose, I would probably go for a townhouse because you have much more freedom to do what you want, and also much more space to yourself. Even though I have a single, it would be really nice to have a living room area to relax in to myself or with four friends.
If you know people going to cornell, I would suggest rooming with one of them in the townhouses and you can have a pretty good time. While you have a double, the space and freedom provided beats a single.

Yeah, the townhouses are VERY nice - though the doubles are small. While they are not antisocial, if you are a shy person that tends to stay in your room/has trouble meeting people, you may do better in a hall-style dorm. That said, there are definately plenty of people to party with in the thouses.
