Anybody have insight as to what are easier majors to be accepted into at Cal Poly?

pretty much anything not engineering or architecture

Liberal arts types usually (but definitely not graphic comms). Majors such as english, history, journalism (I’m a journalism major and I’ve met some people in my major who are really not very smart at all. It kind of makes me wonder how they even got into Cal Poly.) Business, engineering, and architecture are probably the most competitive but they are also the best programs. But you shouldn’t pick a major just cause it may be easy to get into. Pick one that you’ll actually like.

I’d say Electrical Engineering and maybe Civil Engineering. Those are the two least impacted engineering majors I know of. Some of the ‘less known’ majors at Cal Poly may not have that many applicants, but they aren’t that big either.

However, I must point out that NTKS17 is right. Pick a major you absolutely know you will like, even if it reduces your chances of admission. You might find it nearly impossible to change later.

is liberal studies hard to get into? (liberal studies is different from liberal arts fyi)

Kinesiology isn’t easy to get into (from what the professors told us at Open House and hearing it from others.)

Yes, please choose a major that you’re interested in. I thought I would like food science because it was easy to get into, but it’s actually really technical and I’m not into that kind of thing.

True, kinesiology is not that easy to get into. Liberal studies is probably one of the more difficult liberal arts majors to get into compared to others, but still no where near as hard as engineering.

well its not a liberal arts major, its a math and science major. it changed i think two years ago or so?..something like that

Oh yeah, Kines is definitely not a liberal arts major, but someone said it was one of the more difficult majors to get into at Cal Poly which is true I think.

Is Food Science easy to get in to? I’m picking it because the subject interests me.

In my opinion, because food science is a relatively small major, I would say it’s easier than other majors.

Someone I know got in on event planning. EVENT PLANNING. Enough said.

There is no major on event planning.
