What are essay topics that I should look for? What do colleges usually look for in admission essays?

I know that usually in your average college application, there will usually be an essay topic. I want to make sure that once I start the admissions process, I will be ready in terms of my application in 2017. What are some admission essay topics I should look for? What do colleges usually look for in admission essays?

College Admission Essays are supposed to be a reflection of yourself. The essay should be all about you…it should showcase your personality, your character and the life changing experiences that has made you the person you are today. The purpose of the admission essay is that the admission officers get to know you better. You don’t have to sound smart so don’t try hard. Just be honest and write a damn good essay that catches the eye. Check out http://www.studymode.com/essays/ for reference college essays! All the best

The most common essay that many schools have is the Personal Statement. Usually you have a lot of flexibility in writing the statement - just make sure it shows who YOU are. The poster above gave some examples. Look at the schools you’re interested in applying to if you want to see their specific supplemental prompts. Another common prompt is the “Why College X” one. This one you should customize for each school (and more than just replacing the college name in the essay).

The essay is a place to show personality and passions (among other things). Test scores, grades, the laundry list of ECs, all those will be on other parts of your app. Really utilize the essays to show something that the rest of your app can’t adequately convey.

You can look at the Common App and see the prompts.
