does Purdue University have a better reputation in Engineering than USC??
AND
should i go to UCIrvine or UCDavis?

I'd say depends on who you're talking to. UCI and UCD have great opportunities available. Talk to the engineering forum.

Purdue Engineering is DEFINITELY better than USC. Be careful though, Purdue is only renowned for its engineering school, so if you want to go to Purdue then you have to be sure you will stick to engineering and not change your area. Now, West Lafayette/Lafayette is very very boring... you'll feel like living in the middle of nowhere... whereas downtown LA is a horrible/dangerous place to be.

UC Irivine is of course better than UC Davis, but if it's academic reputation of engineering school is what matters most to you then you should pick Purdue over UC Irvine/UC davis/USC.

Cooper Union is awesome if you're doing electrical or chem. engineering.

cooper union? never heard of it... .do they have a graduate engineering program? if not then that's why i never heard of it...

anyway, here's the list of best "undergrad" engineering... I'm sorry it appears Davis eng is better than Irvine eng!

cooper union is v. prestigious and selective. a lot of my friends are applying there. It's in NYC. oh and its free

Cooper Union is a small engineering school in Lower Manhattan. They have four majors. Their cheme and electricale majors are considered on par with if not better than MITs. Their civile and meche majors are considered of high quality, but not on the same level as the other two They have a grad. program, which from what I have heard is just OK. Everyone admitted to CU gets full tuition, and while you can take courses at nearby NYU, the CU curriculum is focused soley on engineering with only a few fresh courses on humanities subjects.

I've never heard this before. Why do you think that, randomwalk?

"anyway, here's the list of best "undergrad" engineering... I'm sorry it appears Davis eng is better than Irvine eng!"

anyway, it seems like you know nothing about colleges if you go off rankings =)

I'm surprised that Drexel University didn't make the cut.

for computer engineering which is the best:

cal poly SLO
UCI
UCSD

?

As far as general engineering goes, Harvey Mudd is very, very good. They provide a thorough training for any engineer, so that you can adapt to changing fields. F.W. Olin is also excellent in that respect.

I second the recommendation of Olin College as an incredible engineering school to look into. (I am currently a freshman there). The school is new and small, but located in an awesome city (Boston), has an unbelievable group of incredibly social athletic, super-smart engineers (average SAT is higher than MIT), and is rapidly gaining national attention. I can't convince you to apply in one paragraph, but I highly encourage you to read up about the school's curriculum at www.olin.edu. Their app deadline is the Jan 6th.

theripcurl1969:

Out of those three, I would say UCSD is the best for Computer Engineering.

Well since miradu is advertising his (or her) fine school, Olin, I guess I should feel no shame in advertising my own, Harvey Mudd. Mudd has excellent, top-notch professors, and awesome, wonderful, brilliant students. What is more, we have the resources of four other liberal arts colleges nearby, so you can take courses at Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, or Scripps. Look into us at www.hmc.edu and seriously consider applying here. Our deadline is January 15th.

I don't know DRab, but I always had the impression that the strongest among university of California system is Berkeley (of course), UCLA, UCSD and UCI, the weakest being UCSC and UCD....

how about between cal poly and uci?

It depends on who you ask...

but I personally would always pick a "research" university over a teaching college even if BSc degree is what I seek. Why? The faculty members in a research university are far more superior.

So my answer is choose UCI.

alirght thanks!

Purdue beats out USC in engineering...
UCI is tied with UCD in engineering...

Hurrah for cross-posting!
