What are my chance for early decision?

Hi I am a high school junior from a public high school in California(ranked in top #250 in us news high school rankings). I have about a 3.8 uw and a 4.1 w gpa. My ec’s are 250+ hours volunteering at a hospital(working with sick children), I was on the jv golf team for 1 year and on the varsity team for two years now. Also, I have spoke on JDRF’s children’s congress at the white house to raise more money for type 1 diabetes and have mentored a type 1 Diabetic for 2 1/2 years also through JDRF Mentor Program. I have been in the girl up club for 3 years and vice president for two and I also have about 100 hours of my part-time job. I have a 2100 sat and 30 act. I plan on majoring in liberal arts. What do you think my chances are of getting into cal poly SLO early decision?

What major are you applying for in the liberal arts college? You have to declare a major. Your SAT and ACT are great. They only look at reading and math for SAT so add those two scores together and then they superscore english and math for ACT. For freshmen 2014 liberal arts the average ACT was 28 and SAT 1263 combined reading and math. The things that set you above will be 8 semesters of foreign language, 4 semesters visual performing arts, 4 semesters advanced math and 8 semesters lab science. With early decision they focus heavily on CSU GPA, test scores and academic rigor. Unfortunately on the application you can’t list all of your wonderful extra curriculars or anything else except how many hours you participate. You will be able to put down how many hours you work. Applying ED is such a smart decision for those that have the grades etc. I applied ED Economics and was accepted in December. Good luck with the rest of high school. You are definitely on the right track!

I’m sorry I meant to type liberal studies and thank you!

If you look at the freshmen profile for 2014, you will see the stats for the college of science and math. When they are admitting students they go by stats from the actual major u are applying to, not the entire college. Some majors have much higher stats for admission. I haven’t seen any stats for liberal studies so u will have to search a little on the threads. I did see that a few applicants were denied first choice of major, but admitted for second choice which was interesting. And they admit about 1/3 of all ED applicants so that’s good! Good luck in the future. It’s very exciting and unnerving at the same time!

Liberal studies is projected to have a 50% acceptance rate for this year which are pretty good odds for SLO. I’d say you have a good chance.

I’d say you have a great chance! But if it is your TOP school, apply ED (I did!-don’t regret it at all). ED will definitely help you get in. Good luck! I know you will love Cal Poly.
