What Are My Chances/ Advice for Being Admitted into NCSSM?

Hi, I am a sophmore hoping to be accepted into the North Carolina of Science and Mathematics. I would like to recieve advice on how to increade my chances of being accepted or what my chances are of being accepted. I am going to be home schooled this school year and I am from CD1. I currently have 5 high school credits because I moved twice during my fresh man year. I plan to take extra classes this school year to catch up on my credits.

During my first semester of my freshman year, I took:
AP Biology
AP World History
AP Algebra I
AP English I
Psychology/Sociology
Business Technology

I moved to a different school after my first semester and since it was the middle of the school year, not all of the classes I previously took was available. The classes available for me to take were:
Honors Biology
Honors Algebra I
Honors English I
World History
Gym

This summer I took:
Physical Science
Orchestra

This school year I will be taking:
Geometry
Algebra II
Chemistry
English II
American History
Art I
Spanish I
Home Economics
Driver's Education
(advanced classes aren't available at my home school)

My EC activities/Accomplishments include:
Competing in the school's Volleyball Team

Being a member of the Student Government Associoation(S.G.A.) since the 7th grade

Captain of my middle school's cheerleading squad

I was a 1st chair Clairent player during my 7th and 8th grade school year

I attended NCSSM's Labs for Learing program in 2010 nut sadly could not continue because of moving out-of state.

Also, I was a State Finalist in the National American Miss comption(I'm not sure if this could be considered an accomplishment acceptable to use on the NCSSM application)

I plan to try to find activities to participate in around my community this school year.

I plan to take the SAT this November and I am unaware of my current GPA. I made straight A's in all of my classes and I made the highest score for my grade level on all of my EOCs.

I would greatly appreciate any advice to increase my chances or an idea on my chances on being accepted.

Thanks in advance. :)

I’ll be sure to watch your videos and to research the information you provided. Thank you so much for your time and information.

I would consider working on more leadership and service opportunities. Remember, NCSSM looks at leadership through a broad lense. Meaning, you might want to consider offering tutoring to younger homeschooled kids and enlist some other high school homeschoolers to help with this. That would be considered leadership and service.

Also, start giving some thought to the issue of why you want to go to NCSSM. Be very clear on the reasons and decide if you are applying for residential and online, or only one or the other. Consider also what you have to offer NCSSM…what will you bring to the table? The aformentioned are questions you may need to answer in the application process.

Good luck to you!

Thank you for your advice, I think I will consider tutoring younger home-schoolers since they are very common in my neighborhood. I will also be sure to do research on hiw I could benefit NCSSM. Thank you again. :)
