What are my chances? and Questions about App

Asian Female senior from Public Highschool in Oklahoma. I plan to major in Biochem.

I'm actually just starting to fill out the online Michigan App (Yes I know, I'm late). I came across some questions:
What is the Pre-Admitted Program for a BioChem major? I still do not understand what this program does.
When they ask for extra activities, they have a very vague selection. For example, Volunteer - Community Service. Its very vague and shouldn’t I explain what kind of community service? Because I've done different ones and I'm just constantly putting that as my activity. Do you get what I’m saying? its kinda hard to explain. I would like it better if they would allow me to go in depth of what I've done for my community. I just feel uneasy about this part. Is this supposed to be like this? Because if it is, how would they know which community I’ve helped out?

My stats:
GPA: 3.62 (I started out bad during my freshmen year with a 3.5gpa, then a 3.5gpa, and finallly I realize my stupidity and got a 3.85 11th grade.) Weighted is around 3.85
ACT: 27 Without Writing, but I'm taking the ACT WITH WRITING in December and I will send in that score.
Class rank: top 15%
AP class: I've taken Ap Euro, AP US History, AP Psychology, & AP Chem classes. This year I"m taking AP Biology, AP Physics, AP English, AP Calc BC. I've only taken AP tests for chem and Psychology but only passed the psychology :(
Extra ACtivites: NHS since mid soph year, Orchestra (9-12) and won alot of awards. Key Club, Environemntal Club (But I joined senior year so... =). I was on Academic Team soph year and we got 3rd place at a state contest. I helped out at the Library during my 11th and 12th grade. For 11th grade, I helped out during my spring break for about 4 hours. For 12th grade, I spent my summer helping out with the Summer reading program - 13.5hours. I went to a retirement home and helped out. I also went to a Shelter and spent 6 hours there helping out to prepare for Thanksgiving. Not much extra activites...
My essays and Teacher rec should be fine.

Thanks in advance!

Probably a slight reach/reach. Your ACT seems really low for an OOS applicant (I’m just assuming you’ll get a 27 again; hope you do better!) and your GPA is kinda low too…

Only use your GPA from 10th and 11th grade, so yours should go up a little. But based on your stats, id say reach

What do you mean only use 10th and 11th? Can you do that? :</p>

and thanks guys! I’m trying to get that ACT score up!

U of M recalculates your GPA using only Math, science, english, social studies, computer science, and foreign language classes from only your 10th and 11th grade. If you find the average of all the core class grades from 10th and 11th grade, you’ll probably be able to get a more accurate chance.

Also, all A’s (A-, A, and A+) are 4.0, all B’s are 3.0 etc.

Ooh I see, then my GPA goes up to 3.68. Do you recommand more than one teacher recommandation?

Not really. Unless multible recommendations say something important, significant, and **different **about you, it won’t really matter. Having 5 teachers write a “good” yet generic recommendation saying “blahblah is a good hard working student” won’t help you at all IMO.

I know this isnt the right section, but since I already made a post here…I figure I should just add on to it (Lazy :P)

But, I’m wondering if you would recommand any other research unversities that ranges around 27 ACT for a biochemistry major? I’m looking for more choices.

Hmm…
A few would be:
University of Minnesota
University of Illinois
University of Iowa ( well actually ACT range may be lower)

If you could get a 32 or higher on your ACT then I’d say your a match. You have an avg. GPA, but with a score like that I think you get in. I was actually just at UMich 2 days ago and stayed with a bunch of friends did some partying and all the people were saying how the admissions people love that OOS money. So If you could get a REAL high score (like a 32 or above) I think your a match.
