So heres my story: Started at St. John's University - Queens and transferred after Fall 08 (it sucked). There I had a 3.3. I now go to UMass - Amherst and had a 3.68 last semester, and will probably be able to pull off at least another 3.6 if not better this semester. I have 2 great prof recs, 1 from SJU, 1 from Umass. I'm undeclared at UMass, but hoping to apply to the business school (Isenberg) for Finance. Anyways I dont know if I really love Amherst or not. After fall 09 I'll have 45-48 credits. My first choice is Finance at NYU (stern) but I don't think I'll be able to get in. I'll have completed 60 credits by then. I've been thinking about applying in to Economics (school of Arts and Sciences) maybe hoping that I can get in to NYU that way, as I'm planning on getting a masters anyways. My other schools i'm looking at are:

I don't know much about student life at Loyola maryland or Fordham but I know that I want to be near a city. I know NOTHING about Depaul, but was suggested it by a few people. Anyways should I bother even thinking about NYU or should I just move on and start looking elsewhere. If I get in to Isenberg maybe I will stay at Umass, but I doubt it. Anyways thanks for any input as I'm clearly in desperate need of some advice.

Well it’s great that you want to transfer to these colleges, but I don’t think it looks to well that you’ve transferred already. Anways, I think you might have a chance at some of these universities because they won’t check your HS record (GPA, SAT’s). It also depends on what major you’re hoping to apply for at these universities.

University of San Francisco - I don’t really know to much about them
USC (Marshall?) - is tough to get into, the average admitted transfer student had a 3.8 overall GPA
Loyola Maryland - blank on this too
Loyola Marymount - you should be able to get into this one
Pepperdine - you have the potential to get into here as well
UCSD (Economics?)- difficult to get into because of your residency
Boston University (Management?) - you should shoot for a higher GPA and then you might have a chance
UT Austin (McCombs?)- Extremely tough to get into due to residency as an external transfer student
Depaul - I have no idea.

Overall just keep shooting for a high GPA and don’t forget about EC’s that might help you out. It would most likely help that you declare your major (Business? or Economics?) at UMass and complete the prereqs needed for the colleges you are applying to.

yeah I intend to major in either finance, management, or economics if need be. I would be happy doing either of the first 2, and would do economics if I could get in to NYU. Any other thoughts about NYU/any of these?

As an off topic, I somehow think all these schools on your list are of similar level to UMass, of course except for NYU. Why do you even want to transfer, if I may ask?

Well I just dont think a rural school is for me. I want to be near a city and don’t really enjoy going to frat houses every friday and saturday night, and thats really all there is to do in Amherst. The education is great and affordable for me, however I think that a lot of schools on my list are better. I’ve decided to apply for the spring to NYU CAS Economics so I guess we’ll see from there. Any other input from people would be appreciated though.
