What are my chances anywhere?

I dont have my transcript with me, so I apologize and this is what I can workout from memory

First off:

ethnicity: Indian
sex: Male
location: NY

Freshmen year:
Honors Global
Honors Living Environment (ecology)
Honors English
Honors Algebra 2 (math b1)
Honors Spanish II
Computer Aided Drafting

Sophomore year:
Honors Global
Honors VB
Honors Trig. (math b2)
Honors Spanish III
Honors English

Junior Year:
Honors C++
AP Physics B
Regents English
Honors PreCalc
College Spanish
Honors US History

Senior Year (projected schedule):
AP Spanish
AP Biology
AP Statistics
AP Calculus AB
College English
Economics

I didn't take an AP class till junior yr and then only 1 ap class because I wasn't familiar with the AP program

I dont remember the grades but I usually got B+s, except in English classes. A few As here and there, and a few Cs. Unweighted ofcourse. Honors clases have a 1.1% weight and AP has a 1.3%. Honestly speaking and I dont want to make excuses, but I was stupid and ignorant and lazy (still am to an extent lol) and did not realise that I should be doing better. My GPA is probably a 91 weighted.

class rank is probably uhh blegh..

ECs:

150+ hours volenteering in a hospital (actual volenteering though, I was always with patients, and I can probably get a really cool reccomendation from here)

Track, nothing spectucular

However this past year, I have basically decided to get my self into shape, and so I didnt do my normal winter or spring track and instead bought a lot of books and got my self in shape, I lost about 30 pouinds and gained about 50 pounds of muscle. Im not sure what this really means, but is there any way that I can tell the college admissions people that this is the reason I stopped track? I have pics to prove this, w/ a journal.

Went to India summers of 2003, and projected to go again in 2006 to hang out with my grandparents, but I tutor kids in a near by area, I DONT want to sound too try hard, but should I include this?

I was invited to study chemistry at JHU summer of my freshmen year under some prestigious profesor, i went

I was invited to study physics at JHU summer of my sophomore year, see above

I am in the computer club

I have built my own computer, and I have started a band and I do recording tech. This is sorta my big hobby, and I have even made a website and we're pretty popular locally speaking.

probably have some random other things that ive done, but forgot to mention..

SATs:

ongoing struggle!
jan2006: 2030 (710 m, 690 cr, 630 w)

retakin in june 2006, lookin to do much better since I have created a structured study program. Looking at a 2150+, 1500+/1600

I really want to go to Rice University in Texas, and I would do early admission there..

other places:

(Rice U. !)
BU
UCLA
Georgia Tech
UNC Chapel Hill
Carnegie Mellon U.

I am leaning on pre med

also do you guys have any suggetions on good colleges and universities?

PRiSM92289:

UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)

awww noo way, for OOS they're looking for Jesus or something lol

I forgot to add Im on my school's Math Team, and was captain for a few meets and we made it to some invitationals or something

anyoone else?

uhh i disagree, i say its a solid reach.

any word on Rice?

(Rice U. !) Depending on if you can get your grades higher, ED should give you the leg up
BU -Match
UCLA -Reach
Georgia Tech -Match
UNC Chapel Hill -Reach OOS is insane.
Carnegie Mellon U. Probably Match

Definitely write your essay on tutoring kids in India and how it changed you. Not too many other applicants will have done something like this, so it will make you stand out.

cool I will,

I was also thinking of UC Santa Barbara, I really like the UC school system as you can tell :) I understand that OOS is insane in the good public school (berkley + OOS = no chance unless youre a 4.0/2400er)

I just did a BU campus visit, and I honestly wasn't that impressed, it was ok I suppose, Id give it a 7/10

I was also thinking of using Georgia Tech as a saftey

I went over with my Dad, and these are the universities that I plan on visiting..

University of Virginia
Tufts U.
NYU
Columbia U., my dad's close friend knows people there, and told me to go in for an interview. He said if I can get my SATs into the 2250 region that I have a solid chance there if I can also do well on the interview and create a fixed postive impression or something.
RPI

but in the end of the day, I think I would like to go the Rice the most, but aside from Rice, do I have a chance of getting into a great school? I am leaning on pre-med, and I know the competition is crazy, but I dont think im doing too bad here..

Well if you didnt like BU, was it because of the lack of a campus? In which case, NYU doesnt either, and i think Columbia is lacking too.

its a big reach

yoo beenpro umm whats a big reach?

The thing I didn't like about BU was undergrad housing, those stairwells are ultra cramped. Also I didn't see anything to do recreationally speaking you know? It just seemed kinda like a really strict place also, (no noise betwen 6pm - 8am, thats kinda weird)

I have been to Columbia and it was nice, I liked it. It maybe because I live pretty close to NYC and it kinda feels like 'home' but i dunno

Havent seen NYU but its in the village which is a pretty nice area.

You guys think NYU is a big reach?

I think beenpro meant Columbia. You better have some unique personality, because being Indian and your score not being that high (in comparison to Columbia's applicants), isn't helping out that much.

I think you're definitely in at NYU, but that is just me.

Might look at Holy Cross very good pre-med program and the school is SAT optional. School is getting popular-applications up 40% and unlike BU, Holy Cross has nice campus-1 hour from Boston.

cool I kinda like NYC

par72, my friend who is a senior got in @ holycross, he didnt go (went to BC instead) but it was a tough decision

the thing is I am working really hard on my SAT score, and I want to mean something. I am seriously thinking I could crank out a 2200+

If theres any place that has tons to do, it's Boston.

well im going to be a little bias coming from NY, but i do admit boston is real fun. I was just down there @ linux expo.

thats why im appling to tufts

anyways bump, getting in somwhere is causing a lot of stress lol

yeah Tufts is awesome. My friend in mass is goin there. GL

What's that website that lists each college, its average SAT score for the incoming class, the average GPA for the incoming class, ect..Its not in my bookmarks anymore

I know that U.S. news has the best colleges magazine, but cant get it right now

bbummmpppp..

my edition of US News has that
