Here are my stats/info(As of Junior Year)Average-96(UW),105(W),rank-(8/404), have taken all honors and AP Classes, got a 5 on the Euro exam, 4 on the World, and 3 on Biology. I'm currently taking AP American and AP Lit. Next year along with honors classes I'm taking AP Calc AB, AP Macro, and AP Language. I've played baseball since I was 5, travel ball and school team(captain on JV and will be on Varsity this year), orchestra since 4th grade(first chair), over 100 hours of community service, Intel Science Club, National Honor Society, and Foreign Language Honor Society. My SAT is a 1760(I'm going to raise it and take the ACT as well)

So what do you think my chances are at University Park?

I would shoot for an 1800 on your SAT, and I would apply as soon as possible, which was September 1st last year. Your stats are similar to my daughter’s and she really sweated it out, didn’t hear until late January and she applied Sept. 1st.

Thanks so much. Yeah I plan on trying to get at least an 1800 on my next SAT, considering I’ll actually be prepared with sufficient studying and a prep class. Did your daughter get any sort of scholarship from PSU?

My daughter’s stats were nowhere good enough for a scholarship. Penn State is not known for giving money. Shreyers Honor College gives a scholarship, you apply for Shreyers
separately, I believe.

Sorry to rehash this oldish thread but, I just found out I got a 26 on my ACT. I’m obviously going to take it again, but does this help me or hurt me as of now?

Your chances look great, really! I got a 26 on my ACT (27 superscored but I don’t think Penn State superscores it), and I got accepted. My SAT was also a 1760, which was the exact same as yours! My gpa, however, was significantly lower: 3.4 unweighted. I’m not sure what my weighted was since my high school weirdly doesn’t want students to know, but I did take 5 AP, honors, advanced, and college classes and did relatively good in all of them. I was also in sports for a couple years and a few clubs where I held leadership roles. I also had some community service hours (100+ hours). Honestly, your chances seem REALLY good. Your also in Honors Society so that’s a plus. If you are super super concerned, I would just pull your SAT to above an 1800 (totally do-able) and your ACT up to at least to 27-28+ (which is very do-able as well). Also, I know some people who did not look into the essays but I think you should work hard on them because you never know if you might be the borderline applicant to the main campus or something. Just apply early…like as soon as you can start to apply. You’ll be in for sure. I’m out of state by the why. Anyways, good stats! You did very well for yourself in high school, hope we’ll see each other at Penn State!

I am a Junior in high school as well. My GPA is 4.0. SAT 1640. ACT with writing is 23. Member of NHS. I attend one of the top high schools in PA.

What do you think my chances are at University Park?

Theoretically, I would say fair, b/c PSU is based 2/3 on gpa and yours meets their requirements. But the test scores fall below their target range.
