hi, i basiclly have to move to new york, even though i been accept to UCSD which is a great school.
I know i can get into the Cuni's like baruch and so on but i want something comparable to UCSD and NYU seems like it is comparable.

I am a transfer student from a california community college..
My overall gpa is 3.36... will be 3.59 after this semester.
I did not take the SAT nor is it required as i have done over 60 units.

I worked the whole time i was in college.
I went to college at 16 but i took the CHSPE ... which is like the GED but only valid in california.

i dont really have any EC's as basiclly i have to work b/c my mom has cancer and my brother is bipolar, so i am the only one that works.

I want to apply to CAS-econ/math .. the joint degree.

I want to know if i should even bother witht he application as it is pretty long and well its not cheap either.

To be honest, if you're concerned about the cost of the application, you're going to be in real trouble at NYU because the f/a is notoriously bad.

well if i got in i would only be there for about 2 years, so thats roughly 60k... and i get the full financial aid from federal.. so if i took out some loans i would be ok.

... and i get the fee waiver anyways, so i am not worried about the app fee, i just want to know if i should even botherapplying.

My opinion is always that if you want to apply, then do it! Just do it with realistic expectations and you'll be fine. If you have a waiver for the app fee, then why not. Your gpa is fairly low for NYU standards and it will depend what NYU college you're interested in , and as always, transfers are only admitted as to availability in the program, but why not try. One thing I will say is that I don't understand what you mean by you get 'the full financial aid from federal'. No one at NYU gets a full ride, even the top academic stars and the absolute neediest of kids. Your numbers are slightly off, too. This year's fees (and they increase annually) are tuition: $34,780; room and board and additional fees bring the annual total to $47,920, so you will definitely be looking at more than '60k'. :)

i meant i get the full amount of what the gov't offers, i know that will not cover the tuition.

What is the gpa like for most nyu transfers?

i am not living on campus... so i figure if financial aid covers like 15k each year the rest i could loan out i guess. ..i am going with 15k b/c that is about what i would get if i went to UCSD just from federal.

Does anyone know how NYU calculates GPA? for example i have courses that do not transfer, my transfer gpa is 3.48, but thats for UC transferable courses , which will oviously not be the same as NYU. i have some bs classes like excel, keyboarding, and some low math courses that do not transfer to most schools

I say go for it. I did and I got in. I didn't expect to at all. I deferred my enrollment until fall though.
I was never an overachiever in HS like most of the people on this board. I have some university background backing me up....good grades, not stellar. My SATs I took my junior year in HS....I really messed those up by partying the night before, barely sleeping, and never studying- 980. No EC's (by choice). I wrote a great essay, and had good rec letters. I had to do an interview over the phone and the lady really seemed to like me.
You never know unless you try. This board scared me into thinking I didn't have a chance. It's actually annoying the people that are like "I have a 3.9 and did blah blah comm service, EC's.....yadda yadda. Do I have a chance??" I think NYU sees real people past the overachievers. Real people with good a head on their shoulders. That is what they want.

i kind of mentally already decided not to apply but because ofyour post i am chaning my mind. Its like i have been very very slowly filling out that application, seriously i started it atleast 4 months ago, and i keep on thinking if i should or shouldnt finish it.
