What are my chances at ANY easy/medium in difficulty college?

I'm a junior and have a 2.8 UW (I know, horrible) and a 3.0 W. Surely by the end of the year, my UW would probably have gone up to a 3.0 and my weighted slightly higher. I haven't taken the SATs or ACT yet, but I got a 1300 on the PSAT this year, not that it means anything, but yeah..

I'm not aiming for any Ivy obviously, nor am I shooting for any super competitive state school. I just want to get accepted at a decent college that is not too hard to get into. I live in Florida, and I'm thinking either FIU or University of Florida, for those of you familiar w/ those colleges..

Thanks in advance...I'd really appreciate your help at chancing me! :]

bummpppp! :]

University of Florida is an extremely selective college and I have to say that UF is a NO for you. Most kids that go there have 3.8-4.2 weighted with 1250-1400 SATs if I'm not mistaken. From what you posted, I think you've been strongly misinformed about UF.

FIU on the other hand seems to be a match for you GPA wise. If you can actually pull that 1300 (out of 1600 right?) on the SAT, I think you're a lock for FIU.

Thank you goot31. ;)

Does any one know of any colleges that are well suited for a someone like myself?

How about attending a community college and then transferring to a 4-year university for the last couple of years?

If you want to stay in florida and go to a public university, take a look at Florida Atlantic (Boca), Florida Gulf Coast ( Ft. Myers) and the Univ of North Florida (Jacksonville).

They all have admission criteria that are right in your range. FIU is in this group as well.

University of Central Florida. Good location (near Orlando) and has a solid athletic program (they just built a brand new stadium for the football team).

I think you have a shot at FIU or UCF.

In my opinion, the only shot you have at UCF or USF would be to pull the 1300 on your SATs. They've become more selective over the years and have tried to take themselves away from the FAU, FIU type school and towards the FSU's and UF's of the world.

On a side note: I live an hour from UCF, over on the beaches (Cocoa Beach area), and have season tickets to UCF football. Those games are FUN. They also just built a brand new 10,000 seat arena on campus.

What are you looking for in a university? Majors? I have to agree that UF is out, as well as FSU. You may have a shot at UCF if you get your grades up and get that 1300 on SATs. I don't know too much about USF, just saw an article in the paper today about $ cuts and therefore admission getting tougher. Keep in mind that all of those schools are 40,000-50,000 students. Perhaps you should look at the "smaller" public universities in Florida. FGCU is about 10,000 students with a fairly new campus. Nice area.

If You Are In State Definitely Apply To Uf You Have A Good Shot At Getting In Even If Your Gpa Is A Little Low- You Have To At Least Try

When you get your SAT scores, you will have a better idea of how you stand with the state schools. Most of them look at a combo of grades and test scores for entry decisions unless you are in a special category such as a recruited athlete. You school guidance counselor would be the person most knowledgeable about your chances with your own state school and other schools where kids from your high school most often apply. You can then make your picks accordingly.

You probably would only need about a 1200 to get into UCF. I know the UCF students pretend like the school is reaching UF status but it's really not... so don't get caught up in the hype.

That being said, all the colleges in Florida are raising their requirements because of budget cuts. A 1200 should put you in good standing for anything below UF/FSU.
