What are my chances at any top tier school...

I want to do something in political science/international relations/social sciences. English is also an interest.

Schools like Vanderbilt, Emory, Wesleyan, NYU, Cornell, Northwestern, UVA (in state), Georgetown. Are they out of my reach now?

I am a Junior, just starting the second sememster. I have a disappointing 3.36 weighted (it's a 4.0 scale, just with .7 added to any AP grade... it is prob 3.25 or so unweighted) so far cumulative. I had a rough year sophmore year in being extremely lethargic and out of it. I am kicking ass so far in the 2nd sememester and can end up with a 3.6-3.7 cumulative at the end of my Junior year.

I took the SATs, got a 1400... taking them again tomorrow (weather cancelled the Jan. 22nd one here) and am confident in at least a 1450... if not a 1500. I am confident that I will score well on the New SAT as well. I got a 211 composite on my PSAT.

I am an active member of the school Government Club, participating in the Model State legislature program all three years. I was selected to attend the national conference last year (as I am sure I will be this year). I was also told by my guidance counselor to apply for an American Legion leadership program (I will probably make it). I debate on the school debate team, run track in the spring, sing in the school chorus. I am a member of National Honor Society. I run my own online business. I will run for SCA President next year, try and make Gov. Club prez next year and am running for Youth Governor of Virginia next year (I know that the last three are just hypotheticals... but I haven't had an opportunity to run for any of these so...) I am also a participant in the math club. I have lettered academically every sememster in high school.

I have excellent essay writing skills, and am going for some sort of AP reward (AP diploma or AP scholar). I have a challenging course load, all academics, sometimes doubling up on one field to get ahead, 8 AP's (1 soph, 2 jun, 4 sen). I am also confident in an interview working to my advantage as (at the risk of sounding conceited) I am very personable.

Our grading scale here is also shifted so that A's are given at 93 and above, B's at 85, and C's at 77. Our GPA is calculated according to this.

I don't know what more to say, and I am probably missing some extra curriculars.

EDIT: Oh.... and I'm an Asian Male. I know that that probably works against you in some top schools, but do you think that it would help me in a less diverse campus? What would you consider an abundant asian population (ie it won't help you).

I don't want to sound like I am depending on it helping me, I really don't, but I am pragmatic and realize race does play a role and want an accurate assesment of my chances at colleges.

EDIT: Lastly, please please be honest... I can take what you dish out... just be honest.

Thanks.

I think if you keep trying to improve you can get into the bottom schools of the top tier, or maybe even the middle.

Now you go reply to my thread on this same subject please!

write your stuff in list form, not paragraph form, both on this site and on your apps - easier to read

Asian Male? That won't help you, and shouldn't hurt either if you aren't a math/science person

How bout my thread?

I will reply to your thread as soon as i'm done with this reply.

I was also selected for all-district chorus, and will audition for all state.

Why not try applying to Tufts?

right, schools in that range is what i am looking at. Wake Forest, Tufts, Case Western, etc.
