So, yeah, what do you think about my chances? Please let me know it will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, no one here can help you figure out your chances. Nothing you listed here seems horrendous. You’re probably academically prepared, which is the first step. It all depends on your essays, your recommendation letters, and your interview. Good luck. :)

You seem like a pretty competitive applicant, but as lidusha said no one can really give you a fullproof assessment.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/939227-reminder-no-one-not-even-me-can-give-you-accurate-chance-mit.html

The OP is a competitive candidate, and the screenname puts him/her over the top.

Agree with collegealum314 (what’s new?) The basics you’ve listed look good to me. A sense of humor shows in your post–that’s good.

Two items of advice: Think about what you have done or accomplished in your leadership positions (team captain, club president)–something significant or at least non-standard. Also, think about ways that you have improved the situation of other students or others in your community. In that context, tutoring is pretty routine–do you have something beyond that?

Making USAMO definitely helps your chances…I’ve heard CCers saying ~60-70% of USAMO qualifiers who apply to MIT get accepted.

The reason the acceptance rate for USAMO qualifiers is so high is not because USAMO makes your application much, much better but because people who are smart enough and driven enough to make USAMO tend to be quite accomplished in other areas. I’m sure making USAMO helps somewhat but I’m not sure how much.

You seem like a pretty competitive applicant - True.

But very many of the applicants have stellar qualifications. Consider it a “lottery school”. If you get accepted - great! But on the good chance that you are part of the 91% rejected, have a variety of other good choice on your list.

buummmpppp

There’s really not much point in asking further. Take a look at the Featured Thread in the MIT Forum, Reminder: No one, not even me, can give you an accurate statement about your chances at MIT! (or something close to that). It was posted by the MIT rep in 2010. Things didn’t change. Look at the results threads, compare your profile with the ones there. You’ll see that your chances are good but far from certain. Do your best with the application. Take my advice from post #5–where relevant, focus on accomplishments, not titles. Let your sense of humor show. See what you can do to come across (legitimately) as someone who will add to the community. Then let it go. See what happens. Good odds of admission, but MIT sometimes does weird things.
