I was wondering if I had a good shot of getting in and I have been anxious so far about it, I already applied in October and the admissions told me they have everything they need which makes my application complete. I am wondering if my stats can get me in, I am hoping that I do not get bridged but here are my stats.
State: South Carolina Resident
SAT: 1330 Composite (580 Reading and Writing / 750 Math)
GPA: Weighted 4.65 / Unweighted 3.76
Rank: 45 out of 489 (In the top 10%)
Essay: Did the optional essay (basically a personal statement)
Courses: Almost all AP and HNs course throughout the entirety of high school. APs: (AP World History, AP US History, AP English Language, AP Physics 1, AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, AP Calculus AB, AP Physics C, AP Physics 2 C)
ECs: Soccer Referee since Junior year, traveling to Portugal and Spain to study abroad (Studying language and engineering), Varsity Soccer since Junior year (competitive soccer program), community services such as organizing health fairs for people with low income, help campaigning in elections, etc (mainly NOT the school required activites as part of academic clubs (NHS and Beta Club) even though I also participate in that). I don’t know if speaking multiple languages will help.
Hi. Your grades and test scores look great! For engineering, I’m sure the 750 on Math will matter more than the Reading/writing. Plus you’ve pushed yourself academically. I would think you’ll have a good chance of getting into the Engineering college of Clemson.
I think you have a good chance. Please remember that Clemson is a “numbers” school. According to their Common Data Set, there are only 5 areas of high importance, They are:
Rigor of Secondary School Record (Basically did you take the most challenging classes at your school)
Class Rank
Academic GPA
Standardized Test Scores
State of Residency
They do consider the personal statement, but don’t put a lot of weight behind it. On our tour last year, the tour guide said she put GO TIGERS! as her personal statement. Said many of her friends did the same.
They also do not consider volunteer work or work experience, but do consider extracurriculars (Not a lot of weight)
So in my mind, you have nailed Rigor (all your AP classes), Class Rank (Top 10%), GPA seems strong, and you are a South Carolina resident. 4 out of 5 with a competitive SAT score.
So far, everyone getting accepted has had incredibly high Test Scores and GPA’s. I think you may need to be patient and not expect to hear back until 2019. Hopefully I’m wrong and you get a big envelope sooner!
