I will be a senior in high school this year (class of 2017) and I am planning to apply at CSULB. I have all my credits so far, so I am graduating on time. I did fail Geometry both semesters, so I have two Fs on my permanent transcript, but I made both classes up with a C or better. However, I read on the school website that I must receive a C or better in each course: http://web.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/admissions/college_prep.html
On my permanent high school transcript, there are 5 D’s that I have not made up in summer school or online. Should I still apply to CSULB anyways? Or it would just be a waste of time and effort? My UC/CSU GPA is 2.8 (not including my second semester of junior year). My SAT with writing score is 940 and my ACT with writing score is 15. I want to enroll in the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB in order to pursue a bachelors degree in music education. After, I am planning to transfer to USC Thornton School of Music to earn a master’s degree in music education, as well as a doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in music education. If I cannot make it straight to a UC after high school, I am willing to go to a CC so that I can complete my general education while getting an AA degree in music or just completing my general education alone at a CC and transferring to CSULB without an AA degree. What route is more realistic in my situation?
If you’ve made up the Ds, you’ve met the requirement but, your stats are going to make freshman admission to LB unlikely. Maybe if you blow them away with an audition…
I honestly don’t know much about the music program at most CSUs. Perhaps SF and Sonoma States are worth a look. Your stats will probably get you in academically.
BTW - CSULB isn’t a UC.
CSULB is highly competitive and so is the music program. My son’s friend got rejected with a 3.6. Unfortunately if you don’t have a 3.5 or higher your chanes of being admitted are slim I’m sorry to say. Good luck!
Will you still be applying here @mzaporteza
@sunsmom Hi!, excuse, do you know something about the composition program of CSULB? I’m planning to apply to the master program in composition.
Yes I am still planning to apply here for the fall of 2017. I am dedicated to try and get accepted into the music program, but if not I’ll most likely end up going to CC first and working my way up to a 4-year music program! I was thinking of enrolling into Orange Coast Community College so I can prepare myself for the CSULB music program as well as UCLA’s, USC’s, and NYU’s if I stand a chance!
