I am a sophomore in a community college. I will be applying Fall 2013. My current GPA is a 2.9. Next semester I can bring it up to 3.1 at max. I am local to Sacramento and want to major in business accounting.

Can I get into CSU Fullerton, CSU Sacramento or any other CSUs? I really want to get into Fullerton!

If you are local in Sacramento, I’m sure you’ll get into Sac State. I live in Sacramento as well. As for Fullerton it is an impacted school so to be honest a 3.1 won’t get you into the school. Due to budget cuts the CSU system is severely affected therefore they are cutting down the amount of transfers that will be admitted and give priority to local/service area students first. After that, they look at GPA nowadays schools such as CSU Fullerton and Long Beach will most likely take in students who have a 3.7 GPA and above. Anything below that will be tough to get in.

I calculated my transfer GPA. As of right now I am at a 3.0. So the max GPA I will be able to get once I apply to colleges Fall of 2013 will be 3.37. Will I still be at a disadvantage? I’m not sure if the summer prior to applying is considered as well. If so, then I can probably boost up my GPA to a 3.4-3.6.

You must complete all requirements needed to transfer prior to the semester you’re applying to. If you apply for Fall 2013 classes must be finished by the end of Spring 2013. Here are the list of majors that are impacted at the schools. This will help you generate some ideas where you can get a good reach. Sac State is your safety school to transfer to as long as you have completed all of the requirements needed to transfer. There are two other CSUs in CA that are currently not impacted which are Northridge (In Los Angeles near Hollywood) and East Bay (Used to be known as Hayward 40 minutes away from San Jose). I’m not sure about the other ones because I only researched schools that are accredited for my major. I’m also a sophomore and looking into transferring to either Northridge or East Bay. It’s good to take into consideration that if you transfer to a non-impacted school you will have more resources available and easier to get your classes. Despite what people say it’s best to read lots of reviews from various sites on those schools to see which one fits for you. East Bay is on the quarter system, so you’ll be graduating faster if that helps. I’m doing research on these schools as we speak.

Thanks for the info. I will complete my major pre reqs and golden four by spring 2013. North ridge is one of my options, but I really want to get into Fullerton. Looks like I’m at a low standing though :(

You’re welcome! I wanted to transfer to Fullerton as well, but because that school is so popular every major is impacted including those at the transfer level. Even with a 3.5 GPA it will be tough to get into the school assuming you had all GE and major requirements fulfilled. I say that you have a good chance of getting into Northridge though, but still apply to Sac State.

Yea I definitely will. I just wanted to move away from home though lol. I’m still going to apply anyways. I should get the free application waiver.
