Do I even have a shot?

dont send ACT; i can see you getting into both

Why shouldn’t I send ACT?

34 ACT is better than 2150 SAT afaik

Outstanding! i think you have a chance.

unless your parents are affluent and wont mind over-paying for UCs as an OOS student, then…

How do you know that you’re a Nat’l merit Scholar? You/re not a senior.

oh, I now see that you’re premed…dont waste your time at a UC

It seems there more high school kids on the forum these days and give ill advices. ACT score looks good and is better than SAT. But it is very expensive for oos and there is little aid to them. I also don’t see how you are a NMS.

You have a strong shot for both, I would say you’ll get into both.

sorry op i flipped i meant dont send sat, send act. theres a large difference in the score

Billcscho, I scored very well on the PSAT. Kinda got lucky. 99th percentile on all state-wise. So I guess I’m just assuming, although I probably shouldn’t.

^ You may be a semifinalist or even finalist, but being a NMS is a different story. It is not just based on the scores.

I think that your chances are very good. My son was rejected from Berkeley (also out-of-state), but your stats are significantly higher. He got into UCSD and Davis, which follow Berkeley and UCLA for selectivity.

With respect to the ACT and SAT, here is the concordance which indicates that a 34 ACT is equivalent to 2250 or range of 2220-2280 SAT.
https://www.act.org/aap/concordance/pdf/reference.pdf

Admission-wise, UCs emphasize GPA more than test scores. Selectivity varies by division and/or major in many cases.

However, being out-of-state means that UC financial aid will not cover the $23,000 additional out-of-state tuition.
