What are my chances at Holyoke?

i think u have a pretty good shot u seem well rounded and ur gpa looks fine..........standardized testing isnt required at MHC neway

Are you applying for ED? I am applying for ED II. Does ED-ing(I or II) help??

yes im applying ED I...........i think if u apply ED ur chances are a little higher than those applying regular since ur showing ur commitment to the school but i think u have a good shot either way.

My daughter is a senior at MHC. Her GPA and SAT scores were similar to yours when she applied 4 years ago but admission has gotten tougher since then.
Your EC's could be a bit stronger. Many seem to be from 12th grade and may appear to colleges as if you are now participating in them for the purpose of your college resume. (I'm not saying that is the case)
You should also only include activities from high school on your resume. I don't believe Mt. Holyoke is looking for "well rounded" as much as a student who has a passion in one or two areas.
If you do not need financial aid, applying ED is definitely the way to go.
One more note......please apply no matter what you read on this board or others tell you. Only the admissions committee can really answer your question.
Good Luck!!

I am applying ED II and applying for financial aid too. (a lot of it since i am a poor south asian girl) How generous is Holyoke for international students? My seniors have got pretty good aid there. will they look at academics for aid? And can i not submit my SAT I scores and submit only SAT IIs?

And also those are only major ECs. I do have gud ECs from 9 and 10 as well. and also won prizes in few sports. And what does being passionate actually mean? Can i like show it through the essay? I m hopin to write a good one.

Thank you for all the input!

I disagree with CrewMom. I was "well-rounded" and I got in. MHC just wants to see that you're an engaged person. List everything that's relevant/you care about. And don't take chances threads too seriously. :)

I'm pretty sure you can submit SAT II scores without a submitting a SAT 1 score, but I think the college board lists them together, so technically they can see them both.

PS: If your daughter is on crew this year, congrats CrewMom! They just won the Seven Sisters Regatta!

hmmmm.... I don't believe I said that MHC does not accept well rounded students. (of course they do!) I was just stating my opinion based on my daughters experience.

Thanks for the Congrats frazzled. Yes, she is and yesterday was a wonderful win for crew!

Thanks for all the input! I guess i'll work on my SATs now to improve and chances. Does my chance increase if I improve my SATs to a 2100?

Its optional to send SAT scores but does a good SAT score help???

While not sending an SAT score won't hurt you, I really believe that sending a good score can only help. If you think you can get your score over 2000, try your best to make it happen.

Regarding well-roundness,

I also believe being well-rounded is an excellent attribute to have. BUT having a scattered record of EC's is not good. You need to show DEDICATION to those ECs that you're involved in. I know I was involved in many activities, but I extensively, passionately, worked on them. That really shows on your app. The essay is a wonderful way to show some of your passions. Good luck!

Btw, don't stress if you can't have a great SAT mark. Just don't send it. But remember if you do that, you've got to know that the rest of your application is solid. Don't worry---you'll be fine!
