what are my chances at MIT?

Hey guys. So for years now I’ve probably been keeping my eye on MIT (and other top engineering schools like Caltech and Stanford) and the years keep coming closer and closer to my application deadline and now I’m beginning to think, “Have I really accomplished anything spectacular with my life so far?” And then I realized, “I need someone to tell me if I’ve really done that.” So after reaching this epiphany, I’ve found this site and am now using it to help me gain a better understands at my chances for MIT here.

• Started playing tennis 1 and a half years ago, started playing under 16 boys USTA matches

• Owner and Creator of I-phone app UCollege (Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ucollege/id639596350?ls=1&mt=8)

• Did taekwondo for 6 years; I've also attended state and national level taekwondo tournaments and won some medals/trophies

• I tutor students in Pre-Calc/Algebra 2 at my school through Mu Alpha Theta

Future Goals:

• Going to start attending piano competitions and volunteering more through my piano skills.
• I skipped first grade, so by the time I’ll be sending off my college app to colleges I’ll still be 16, so my goal through tennis is to reach the top 200 in under 16 USTA boys standings (So far: 0! :D)
• I’m going to study harder for the AMC and hopefully make AIME and even make USAMO, which is my goal this year. I did very poor last year (a 108? My twin brother made it to AIME with a 126 but only got a 6 on it, didn’t qualify for USAJMO :P)
• I’m going to take the SAT Math 2 Subject Test in October, hopefully going to get an 800
• I’ve also been given the opportunity in my school to take the PSAT this year, I’m going to try and get 220+ so next year I can qualify for National Merit Scholar.
• Definitely work on my app. For anyone that clicks the app link you’ll probably say “Oh, this is ****, this guy’s not even special.” Well, that may be true, but I’m not a very experienced coder, and with the struggle between my EC’s and school courses, it’s a heavy workload. However, I’m more prepared and ready to work and put more time on my app, my freshman year workload of 3 ap’s really prepared me for today.
• I’ll try to qualify for RSI next summer, would be a huge opportunity for me to learn more about computer science and hopefully get some better ideas on how to improve my app.

I’m very sorry for this super long post, but I just want to make sure to those that read know what kind of person I am and what I’ve already done and prepared to work hard for in the near future in order to get into MIT. I would be very much appreciated to anyone that offers any sort of feedback/constructive criticism: tell me what I need to improve, what I should focus on more in the future, etc.

Thank you to anybody that reads this!

I’d say you’re on the right track and you have a real shot if you can keep it up.

But be careful, it’s hard sometimes to meet your expectations, I know from experience (although you seem more motivated than I was).

Thanks Petersuu! And yes, you are also right, it will be very hard to meet up to my expectations. However, I’m still prepared to follow through accomplish my goal, even if in the future it may so happen that one of my expectations doesn’t get accomplished

You’re on the right track, definitely. Even if you don’t meet all of your goals, you’ll still be an extremely competitive applicant. Try to get 2200+ on the SAT :)

bump…

You have to be a rising senior to attend RSI. Looked at your app site - hope that was a real quote from a college admissions officer (it was kind of cheesy either way).

@Falcon1 thanks for the info about RSI, I’ll keep that in mind. Also, concerning the quote on the Itunes link, it wasn’t done by anybody I know, so I don’t know if they really found it “all that” or they just want to make a joke of the app itself, either way, I’m not very concerned by it.
