Internship experiences at financial firms...
I've founded a sporting-goods wholesale business...
International volunteer work at a prison in South America...
I've founded a Finance club at my current institution...

(It's going to be between Sophomore and Junior transfer...) I used to take 22 credits and minimum 18...but I just decided to drop a course for this semester and take just 18 credits. It was bit too much.

I am currently attending a very small engineering school in NJ.

I am applying to:

New York University - CAS
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (LAS)
University of Notre Dame
Carnegie Mellon University (liberal arts school)
Columbia University (I know...)
Amherst (sigh...)

What are my chances at those schools?

Please recommend me some good schools for me!!

Would you mind telling us the name of the school...or it's approximate ranking? That would help alot.

A 3.7 is pretty good and you have some nice ECs. I think you should retake the SATs or ACT just to strengthen your app if you've got the time.

NYU - Probably
UMich - Probably
Notre Dame - Probably
Carnegie - Not sure
Columbia - doubtful
Amherst - also pretty doubtful.

I attend Stevens Institute of Technology. It's a very small school. It's got some ties with NYU...well, NYU engineering program is taught at our school.

As far as US News ranking goes...it's 77th place. Pretty darn low.

i am pretty sure you'll get into nyu, --stevens has ties with nyu. your stats sound pretty decent, so just try! good luck with everything, start your apps! (afterall, this was just a moral booster right?) hmm i really like hoboken...say bye to washington st for me!

haha :) I do like Hoboken as well. It's not so crowded, and still bit cheaper to live here than in Manhattan.

Anyway, did you attend Stevens too?

What are some other schools should I consider?

I would like to transfer to NYU. It won't be that big of a change as well. Just across the river.

Thanks

bump bump bump bump bump

bumpdy dumpdy bumpdy dumpdy

Hey jslee1026,

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to transfer from stevens? I was considering between nyu, polytech, and stevens myself. I ultimately chose CAS at nyu but im always curious as to how it would have been if i had gone to stevens.

It's an excellent school if you are interested in an engineering/comp. sci. program.

Statistically, Stevens has a diverse campus with students from China, India, and etc.

Also Stevens gives you personal attention. I feel very close to all of my professors, and you see them throughout your life at Stevens. Classes are rigorous, especially pure science and engineering classes are very tough.

Stevens students have right to take NYU liberal arts classes. Stevens also has a 6 year pre-law program. You study at Stevens for 3 years and then you study at NYU Law school for the last 3 years.

HOWEVER, the only problem that I have with Stevens is that the student body is ironically not diverse enough.

Of course, statistically speaking, the campus celebrates diversity. But students in overall have very much the same interest and goal. Most of the people are oblivious of the things outside of Comp. Sci. or Engineering. Noone talks about the world politics, economy, stock market, arts, music and etc. Everyone is too narrowly focused on studying in the field of engineering.

Stevens is a great school if you are looking for a high-paying job after graduation. Surpringly, Stevens classes are much tougher than those of NYU. I know this for I've taken some NYU classes. Many of the employers are aware of this and if you have above 3.0 GPA, you are considered quite brilliant.
