Hi everyone,
I live in California, my weighted GPA is 3.7 and my unweighted is 3.4/3.5. I’m currently wrapping up my Junior year. My SAT is (the new sat) 1370/1600 and my ACT is 30. I did my 9th and 10th in a very competitive high school in New York, before I had to move to a mediocre school in Cali. My ECs are limited because I moved. I did 2 years of PreMed club(Treasurer) 2 years of Model UN and 2 years of Future Business Leaders of America and 1 year of Red Cross club and 1 year of wounded warriors. I am also interning this year at an architecture firm. There is an enormous upward trend on my transcript because I started studying very hard in 11th grade. I have straight As in 11th with 4 AP classes(Calc AB, Language, Psychology and US History). I am taking 5 APs next year (Calc BC, Literature, Gov, Stat, Physics). I want to major in finance.
I would appreciate if someone could tell me my chances of getting into some or all of these colleges:
-University of Michigan
-Indiana University(Bloomington)
-Ohio State University
-UCSD
-UT-Austin
-NYU
-UCLA
-UCSB
-Boston University
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
-U of Illinois-Urbana Champlain
UCSD/UCLA are probably very improbable for you. Your list seems like it has no safeties. Sit down and reevaluate your list, come back with your final junior transcript, and we can chance you then.
UC/CSU GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
As an OOS applicant, you only get the honors points for AP/IB or DE courses. For Cal Poly SLO, you need to include 9-11th grades while the UC’s use 10-11th grades only.
Are your parents able to pay full freight for the California schools? No FA for OOS students.
That is based on my final junior transcript. I understand that UCLA/UCSD are high reaches but I was just making sure. Could you chance me for the others though. That would be great. @thisisfine2020
@Gumbymom I am instate and my UC GPA is 3.74
All the CA schools you list are reaches. They could happen but, it is unlikely. In CA, I’d add UCSC and UCR - I’d call those matches, not slam dunks. SDSU, CP Pomona and CSULB have solid artchitecture programs and are very likely to admit you.
I would just be guessing at the non-CA schools so, I will keep my mouth shut.
Good luck
For the midwestern schools, UMich is a reach, IU, OSU & UIUC are matches. If you apply to engineering they are all reaches. I suggest re-taking the ACT if you want a shot at any UC’s or Michigan.
IU is probably the closest thing on your list to a safety, you have a pretty good shot for OSU (Although I’m from Ohio so I’m basing that off of people I know who go there/have gotten in so it’s probably harder OOS). Honestly the rest are all reaches. I’m a junior and my top choice is UT Austin and you have no shot getting into McCombs finance. If you really want to go there apply to an easier major, luckily I want to major in sport management and it’s not nearly as competitive as McCombs, Engineering, etc. UM Ross is even harder than McCombs. But remember, IU Kelley is on the same level as Ross and McCombs, so that seems like a great option for you.
