Thanks for your help:)

nice SAT score! i think you have a good chance, but not much higher than the 7% acceptance rate.

The Princeton web site shows that 18.7% of students that achieved a SAT score between 2300-2400 were admitted. I have seen comments that suggest that 40% to 50% of the students that achieved 2400 on their SATs were admitted.

The entering freshman engineering class for this fall is 45% female. If you can visit any of your top choices this summer then make the visits. Princeton and Stanford are very similar in their strengths. If you like the environment of Princeton and Stanford than the city environment of Columbia may be a distraction. Or you may prefer NYC.

Reduce the number of universities where you apply to a manageable number. Each university may have unique essays. Students that apply to too many universities often do not write essays that demonstrate their true ability.

The acceptance number is about 30% for perfect scorers at most of the very top schools. The person who said not much higher than the 7% acceptance rate should provide some rationale for making that statement. Clearly, the OP’s test stats are better than the average applicant, she has a very good GPA from one of the top private schools, and decent extracurriculars. Recs and essays need to be stellar but decent shot at most schools given her stem focus.

Here is a link to the admission statistics for the class of 2016
[Admission Statistics | Princeton University](http://www.princeton.edu/admission/applyingforadmission/admission_statistics/)

It shows that 18.7% of students who score in the 2300-2400 range are accepted. There is no separate statistic for perfect SAT scores but clearly the acceptance rate is higher than 7% for this range of scores.

To answer the question of whether it is worth it to apply to Princeton or a less selective school EA, only you can answer that question. If you really feel Princeton is the best fit for you, then why wouldn’t you apply? When our son was asking himself the same questions, we really encouraged him to consider whether he would regret not taking the chance at some later point in life. It turned out to be an excellent decision as he was admitted and loved his first year. =)
