That bad? Ahh. I just thought because I spent all summer there I would seem very dedicated. Plus there was a death in my immediate family when I was in 9th grade which could explain the lack of ECs that year. My GPA is just a few points under their average and my SATs can go up to their average.

But thanks for your opinion, I really do appreciate it.

It is important to know if you need financial aid. Skidmore, although generous to my child, has a less than stellar policy and record in this regard. Your first year FA may be OK, but that could change dramatically the following year. There was Time magazine article about this about 18 months ago and you may find it instructive.

Yes, you are about average, but I think you’ll need to demonstrate a real engagement with an EC or particular filed of study to provide your application with an edge. Skidmore is an aspirational school–they are actively seeking to build their reputation via stronger stats and good students. You need to understand each school’s admission philosophy and how you can play to that in your apps as you finalize a list.

Thank you so much for the help. Yeah, I know. I do want to apply for financial aid although I do not believe I will get much.

I am going soon to interview and I do have professors in particular fields that I am scheduled to talk too. I think that academically I am around average but I am just trying to show how dedicated I am and how much I want this. It just worries me seeing these posts from very intellectual people who are ivy bound and applying to Skidmore. But thank you again, I always love the advice. Any opinions are much appreciated.

The FA Office has actually rewarded every freshman (including myself) I’ve met this year generously. This could be because they overenrolled with more kids paying full tuition, but those who DID apply for FA did get their needs met.

The amount of interest you’ve shown in the school is great. Your SATs could need some work, but from what I’ve been told, Skidmore’s much more concerned about your GPA than anything else numbers-wise. Your involvement in the pre-college program definitely boosts your chances, as I am actually now really good friends with a coupld of people who DID do the pre-college program. DEFINITELY emphasize that somewhere in your application.

Listen, don’t try to compare yourself to anyone else. I did that during my application process and it actually made me 10x more stressed than I needed to be. Hopefully I’ll get to see you next year on campus!! :)

If you have any questions about Skid, just send me a private message! I’m a current freshman and have loved every single minute that I’ve been here. Seriously.

Thank you so so much for all of that. I defiantly look forward too seeing you on campus, hopefully. Haha but thank you! (I probably will send you a message one of these days too) All the opinions are so helpful. :D
