[*] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Asian Male interested in Psych/CompSci, not really sure if this is a hook

Your gpa is a little low, but I am assuming it is because of your heavy course load during junior year which may make it up. Asian Male into CS is not a hook at all lol. If anything it is an anti-hook (if thats a thing?)

So, do you think that I have a chance because looking at all these other people, they seem to be extraordinary, or is that only due to the fact that this is College Confidential.

@tennisbuddy - you are as good as you can get. Have you applied EA or are you doing RD? I am sure you know that Stanford’s acceptance rate is ridiculously low - meaning even the most qualified applicant has very little chance of acceptance - for no fault of theirs. What other schools (matches / safeties) are you applying to?

Your test scores, rigor, and ECs are where they should be. My only concern is your UW GPA. You have a chance, but keep in mind that an acceptance for Stanford isn’t easy for anyone.

SAT is obviously phenomenal. The 100+ hours for tutoring represents what span of time? (I.e. 100 over your four years of high school, this year, this month, etc.) Table tennis sounds fun! I agree that your UW GPA may be cause for concern… I believe that guidance counselors report percentiles, even if your school doesn’t technically rank, so Stanford will know what the number means for your school. “Meh” essays also seem a bit concerning for a school so concerned with fit & “intellectual vitality.” I don’t think your hook is actually a hook, especially for Stanford. I can see it going either way at this point – if I had to guess, maybe a waitlist? – but I’m sure you’ll be accepted to many top schools.

Best of luck! :slight_smile: Chance me back? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1966406-chance-me-upenn-ed-yale-brown-princeton-etc-will-chance-back-p1.html

gpa is slightly low but I don’t think its low enough to get you rejected (or to say more bluntly, IF you get rejected it probably isn’t cuz of ur GPA).

Chance me bacK? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1957999-chances-for-ivies.html#latest

honestly for stanford it’s not about stats but about personality and character
i mean there’s a baseline of acceptable academics which im sure you meet but it comes down to institutional needs (obviously they don’t say they have a baseline gpa or anything but we all know they have academic standards)

what kind of story do you have to tell? that’s more important in a chance me thread for stanford imo. but from your activities you seem pretty involved and nice, but then we’d have to see what professors said to back that up. are you passionate about anything in particular? what’s your goal? those sorts of things would be more helpful to know, but also more private so probably shouldn’t announce it on every “chance me” thread lol.

this is more of a general thought for all stanford chance me threads though not just yours.

like, from seeing your activities i might think “does this student want to become a teacher? why do they love tutoring so much? why is that important to them?” and honestly just showing an honest passion surrounding that, with your focused activities, could be as good as it gets. a lot of people tend to just participate in everything to fill in some imaginary bingo sheet but it doesn’t really show a focused sincere passion. that commitment is important so if you wrote something that sort of backed up what you have w/ all of the tutoring things, you’d be a better applicant than most.

what are your future career goals exactly? teacher?

@Otoribashi, I would like to become a psychologist/writer-ish, I recently published a poetry book that I have been working on. I also think it might be helpful to be an indian male poetry writer. Let me know if you agree with that.

@hungrihippo I got a ton of B’s my freshman year, and then none after that, so I’m hoping that will help here. Yeah, I’ll chance you back also.

@writergirl0316 Chanced back!!

How did you manage 6 aps lol… I cant manage 5 rn lol! I think you have a chance, but not a high one… but it’s stanford so unless your leader of a country its a reach… but your as qualified as anyone.
chance back?
