Hi everyone. I'm looking at the following list of colleges; based on my stats, could you please tell me what you think my chances would be of getting into them or which ones I am likely to get into? Also, I would appreciate other college suggestions based on the ones in this list or any other advice.

Stats:
Class rank: 6/760 (never got a B though)
Courses: Very challenging, almost all honors and 10 APs total
SAT: 660 CR, 740 M, 720 W
AP: Bio-5, Calc AB-5, World history-5, U.S. history-5
SAT IIs: 760 Bio, 780 Math II, 750 World, 700 US
EC: I have about 250 volunteer hours and about 200 employment hours, I am a member of 8 clubs and hold 4 officer positions of President, Treasurer, and two secretaries. I've done JV sports for three years.

College list:
U Penn
Cornell
Columbia
U Chicago
Vanderbilt
Northwestern
Johns Hopkins
Washington U. in St. Louis
Carnegie Mellon
NYU

Hummm…You have great gpa (4.0?), and fine SAT IIs, but what happened with your SAT I, especially the CR? That’s the reason you’re not a lock. Try again, or take the ACT. What is your “passion”? Do you have a hook? JV isn’t varsity, so barely worth mentioning. Any awards? How about AP Scholar w/ distinction? You’ve listed some really tough schools. What are your safeties?

U Penn - probably not
Cornell - maybe
Columbia - not happening
U Chicago - dream (probably not)
Vanderbilt - just right
Northwestern - maybe
Johns Hopkins - depends on recs
Washington U. in St. Louis - did you visit?
Carnegie Mellon - just right
NYU - which school?

U Penn - maybe
Cornell - maybe
Columbia - possibly? <-dunno
U Chicago - maybe
Vanderbilt - decent chance
Northwestern - maybe
Johns Hopkins - maybe
Washington U. in St. Louis - did you visit?
Carnegie Mellon - just right
NYU - if business, might be tough, but you still have a chance

Some things that I forgot to mention before and to answer some of your questions limabeans:

I am taking the SAT I again in October, trying for a 2200.

I attended UPHCSA (the new Governor’s School of PA for Health Care, the state cut the funding but the program was exactly the same).

I won AP Scholar with Honor (but didn’t take enough APs to get distinction).

I won quite a few awards in local competitions but only one at the state level.

I’m interested in Med school so I’ll take the required pre-med courses but I’m thinking about majoring in economics.

I have not yet visited Washington U. in St. Louis

I’m considering Pitt and Bucknell as my safeties.

Also, which of the colleges on the list would be my best chance with ED/EA? I was thinking of doing ED for U Penn but I still don’t know of my chances of getting in.

I disagree. I think JV can be worth mentioning, especially if it’s a sport you’ve spent time on or your team as a whole has won awards. IE, our JV Girls XC team has won regions for like the past 3 years. That’s DEFINITELY an accomplishment and something worth mentioning.

No one is a “lock” for UPenn; they’re an extremely competitive school. Your SAT I seems pretty low, so I’d say high reach there. Better chance at the other schools on your list…

Thanks fuzzyfirebunny, my JV team hasn’t won anything major but I did compete in JV meets and we practiced almost as much as the varsity so I’ll definitely mention it as an activity.

U Penn - reach
Cornell - low reach
Columbia - reach
U Chicago - high match/low reach
Vanderbilt - high match
Northwestern - high match
Johns Hopkins - match
Washington U. in St. Louis - match, prob in
Carnegie Mellon - match, prob in
NYU - high match

Actually, I would say U of Chicago is very possible, but your essay must be UNIQUE and OUTSTANDING.
They put a lot of weight on their essays. Try choosing their more eccentric essay option (I believe this year’s is “How did you get caught (Or not, as the case me be)?”) and giving your answer a unique and unexpected twist.
