I’m interested in applying to schools, how does my resume fit into getting accepted?
Northwestern, U of I, Vanderbilt, Loyola University, WASHU in St. Louis, Case Western Reserve.
GPA will probably ending up being around 3.84 Unweighted.
Looking to graduate with 12 AP Classes(World, Euro, US, Lang, Physics, Calc A if that counts, Chem, Econ, Gov, Lit, Psych, Calc BC)
The rest are typical honors courses and four years of Spanish.
ACT=33, possibly will increase and school gives free SAT too.
I play 2 varsity sports(basketball, track) and I am a four year athlete in both. I am in Health Club/HOSA. I’ve been volunteering regularly at a hospital since freshman year. I don’t have any other official ECs but definitely not against committing myself to another activity.
I think you have a decent chance of getting in. These are not Highly competitve schools like Harvard or Stanford but they are still pretty competitive schools, and you have a pretty strong application. I think you’re in a good position to get to at least one of them. Im a sophomore right now soo dont take my word by stone lol. Maybe try getting recruited?
Are you recruitable ? Contact coaches in both sports at all your universities of interest; the D1/2 coaches will not be able to contact you till June but they can come and track you or come give a look. If you’re a D1/2prospect for basketball you already know it, so I’d focus on D3 and track.
If not recruitable in either sport, your odds are low at Vanderbilt (you’re average for them, even if you’re top 1% !) Increase act to 34 or sat to 1500 and you become a bit more interesting to them, but still odds are at about 10% due to selectivity.
RUN THE NPC ON THESE COLLEGES and bring results to your parents : can they afford the net cost?
You’ll notice the colleges don’t estimate the same net costs for our family. Illinois publics are among the worst for cost (instate) in the country. Bring the results to our parents and see whether they can afford any of these: depending on what they say, modify your list to include guaranteed or competitive ‘merit for stats’ scholarships such as U Alabama 's.
UIUC = due to budget cuts, this will be unpredictable if you’re hoping for CS or engineering. Essentially, those programs cost a lot and are the most attractive in the University, so they’re used to attract full pay oos and international students who will subsidize everyone else since the state can’t. As a result, admission to those programs has become unpredictable. Look at the results thread for this year if you need convincing.
Loyola is a safety academically but it doesn’t meet need. You need to demonstrate interest (visit; fill out the 'request info form - something you should do at all of them if possible). Stats + interest would likely result in merit aid from them.
Northwestern and WashU are ‘reach for everyone’ but you have a shot like at Vanderbilt.
Considering your stats, look into Lawrence, St Olaf, Grinnell, Denison, Davidson. Emory for Emory Scholars. Rpi, URochester, Union, Cornell Cals (ist) if of interest. Run the NPC on all of these.
If you need merit aid, Umn Twin Cities, tOSU, Purdue?
