Biomedical Engineering is very competitive, but cowriting a paper is definitely a strong draw. If you wrote good essays, then I think you have a very good chance at all of them (except perhaps Harvard, but you can never tell with Harvard). The lack of leadership positions is supplemented by your sports career and strong volunteer/academic experience.
