I’m finishing my junior year now and these are my top three choices for colleges next year. I was wondering what my chances would be and if there was anything else I needed to do to better these chances. I’m thinking more about UCLA and USC as reach schools but do you think I have a strong shot at Tulane? I’m willing to apply single choice early action if you think that would help.
My gpa at the end of this year will be a 4.39
My SATs are a 2240
The APs I’ve taken so far are AP US History 1&2, AP Biology, AP AB Calculus. Next year I will be taking AP Spanish 5, AP English, AP Stats, AP Physics, and AP Government and Politics.
ECs: I’ve played soccer and track all 3 years and plan to play them both my fourth year
I was a member of Key Club my freshman and sophomore year but I didn’t like the way it was run and have since started my own community service club focused on the Red Cross, where I volunteer regularly and completed a summer program with. I am also part of the international studies club and am VP of the school store club.
Thanks!
Idk how much this helps my chances but over the summer I’ve completed a film course at NYU, backpacked through Colorado doing community service work, went to red cross leadership camp, and this summer I will be going to Spain for 4 weeks with a high school program.
You are a very strong candidate for Tulane. Make sure you demonstrate interest or they may thInk you are using them as a safety
While I agree that Cooolegegirl is a very impressive candidate (kudos to her!), depending on what her unweighted GPA is, I wouldn’t go as far as saying the committee would automatically consider her to be using the school as a safety. 25% of Tulane admits (as of last year, at least) are over 2150 in their SAT… (and this year is reported to be significantly more competitive). That is probably but a quibble as, barring an unlikely significant discord between her GPA and SAT, she is certainly a strong candidate for all three schools.
If you live in CA, you’ll be applying IS for the Cali state schools, so I’m sure you’ll get in. If not, you’re still a very competitive applicant for the two! I’d say you don’t even have to worry about Tulane with that SAT GPA combo.
@Alex99, a lot other candidates with stats above Tulane’s 75% range thought that the stats were enough and wound up sorely disappointed. See the many posts on the Tulane thread about 6-8 weeks ago. In many cases it was because Tulane was seeking a balance of students with diverse interests, and they had too many in one category.
