Write good essays and have good recommendations and you will be admitted.

I think you'll get admitted for sure. Your ECs and community service are really good.

Your chances are 100%.

Not so fast. A friend of my S had similar numbers & EC's and was not admitted. My S read his essays after he sent them in and said he was afraid they would not cut it. Apparently, my S was correct. The young man eventually chose to go to Duke.

Apparently he didnt write a good enough essay.

I also wouldn't count on those ECs either. They may be manifold, but they're boring, frankly. I don't see anything interesting; just Habitat for Humanity and other staple clubs.

What would be an example of an EC that is interesting? Also that is a personal opinion.

Your question is unanswerable; that's the point of an interesting EC. An interesting EC is something that you look at and think "hmm, that's interesting; I haven't seen that before AND it seems like an interesting activity...one that would be meaningful/edifying for its pariticipants."

Yes, mine is a personal opinion. Also, your offer of admission/letter of rejection is also the personal opinion of the admission committee. It's not that your ECs are bad; you've put a lot of time into them. most likely. I personally just don't see something that jumps out at me as intriguing, and that makes me want to learn more about you as a person. I see activities that everyone else has, and that have become trite and hackneyed.

YOU WILL GET IN if you craft wonderful essays. If your essay are bad, then Chicago will probably waitlist you.

I think you have a fine list of ECs. Plus, you are in leadership positions in most of them, whether sports, community service or academic (debate).

Don't worry, your EC's do not need to involve teaching blind kids horse-back riding.

okay, i don't think essays make or break the decision in every case. i wrote my essays without much effort cause i didn't take uchicago seriously (at first), and what did i get? i was deferred EA and accepted RD.

Do you think that your rushed essay could have contributed to your deferral?

oh yeah, i think my essays could have contributed to it (or maybe they found me unworthy in some other respect), but then later didn't they disregard my not-creative essays?
