Im applying for regualr admission, Im about to take the october november and december sats, and also Acts. The problem is my sat scores arnt that great I would avg my score of being about around a 1750-1850/ 650-700 math, 560-600 CR, 450-500 W (writing included), and Act around 25.
I been doing few of clubs and also a sport. (cross country).
Right now I have around a 4.1 unwieghted, and a 3.9 weighted with 3 Ap classes, and also around 5-7 Honor/Adv classes, my ranking at school is around 50. It is a competitive school with a magnet problem (If this info really matters). I was wondering what my chances are in getting into UGA. Thank you.

If you create a new thread for your question rather than posting in this one, you’ll likely get more opinions and feedback.

I’m assuming you meant to write that your weighted GPA is 4.1 and your unweighted GPA is 3.9. If so, your GPA is right on the mark, but you might want to double-check just to make sure it’s calculated on the UGA scale (0 extra for Honors, .5 extra for AP) as that sometimes confuses applicants.

Your standardized testing scores might be problematic. Using 2009 data, both your SAT and ACT fall right at the bottom 25% of enrolled freshman - but I suspect UGA’s SAT/ACT scores will rise in its 2010 common data set so you’ll likely fall below the 25th percentile. For a better shot at acceptance, you’ll want to work on raising all sections but especially focus on W. If you can score 650M, 600 CR, and 600W you’ll have a good chance of being accepted in my opinion.

1700+ on SAT= Automatic Admission.

ladyjacket42: Not to be rude, but what in the world are you talking about?

@ Needcollege
Your SATs seem fine but I’m guessing your GPA is out of a 5.0 scale (or else you really shouldn’t be wondering if you would make it into UGA) which is a little below average but still fine. You may want to take 1 or 2 more APs but I would think that you would get in. When I appied back in 2007 I had a 3.65 GPA and I got a 1290/1600 on the SATs with 6 APs and I got deferred when I applied for Early Action (then accepted during the regular admissions decision process) and UGA has only gotten more competitive since then. I was definitely in the lower half of the admitted students.

I think that the average High School GPA of last years freshman class was around a 3.9 and the average SAT score was somewhere near 1330/1600 if that helps at all : /

Also…
@ Ladyjacket42
Just because you go to Tech doesnt mean you should be on here telling hopeful students that a 1700 on the SATs will get them into UGA! Thats incredibly rude and extremely distasteful. I would say that a 1650 would be the minimum SAT score that would be accepted now-a-days.

In case anyone was wondering:

2010 mean SAT (CR+M): 1264
2010 mean SAT (W): 612
Combined average: 1876
Middle 50%: 1730-1970
Average GPA: 3.83
Middle 50% GPA: 3.68-4.0

Honors average GPA: 4.06
Honors SAT average (CR+M): 1471
Honors SAT average (W): 712
Honors mid 50%: 1440-1490
Honors average (CR+M+W): 2183

I also applied to UGA under EA and am concerned if that was the right decision. At the time of application, my ACT score was only a 26 (it is now a 29) and my Sat was 590(math) and 620 (critical reading.) I KNOW my SAT scores are low, but I retook them and the new scores will be in November 23 (will UGA use them for admissions for EA?) I have a really good feeling about my SAT scores, so hopefully they will use them and I will not get deffered because I really dont want to write another essay. I am either #1 or #2 in my class, and I will probally be valicdictorian! I am also the star student of my county. MY GPA is 3.9 (unweighted) and I took AP USH and made a 4, and am currently taking AP Biology and AP Lit & Comp. I have taken nothing but honors and advanced courses.

SO WHAT ARE MY CHANCES, AND WILL UGA USE MY NEW SCORES?

Sadly, GPA is the largest thing UGA looks at for EA. Good luck in December. Its a good thing that your EC’s are full. But it looks like your class rank is way too high and you haven’t taken a schedule of rigor, unless your school only offers few AP courses. Good luck getting in, it’s always a good thing to be Athens bound.

Sadly, Ive taken 3x as many AP course as anyone is my class. I know, It’s ridiculous. I was the only one in my class to take APUSH our junior year, then this year I had to take AP Lit & Comp over the internet, because everyone who signed up for the class dropped it the first week off school (after I completed all my summer work -_-). Thanks for your answer. I hope they consider the fact that I signed up for all the advanced courses I could, and even some my school didnt have.

Hello everyone! I just want to know my chances of UGA EA?
Here are my stats:

GPA UW: 3.97

AP’s: 5

1 college enrollment course this year: Eng 1102 & 2111
ACT : 29- English 27- Math, 10 out of 12 on writing, 29 Composite
Race: Asian
Activites: Varsity Cheerleading Captain (cheering for 4 years) and has been in many clubs since freshman year.

I really want to get in UGA EA? what are my chances for early?

cheer4ever, you have great chances. I’d say you get in for EA. I keep saying it, but we are all competing with 11,000 other students who applied EA.

First of all, to everyone on this site I would advise you not to listen to anyone on if your getting in or not. I learned this a while back, and with all honesty their not the people that look at the application. Secondly, UGA, while a good school, is not extremely hard to get into. Its not easy either, but you guys have to understand many of the people that apply are good students, but don’t have amazing stats, like the ones that apply to Ivy League schools. For instance, cheer4ever would probably get in EA for UGA. Also, their are exactly 10,621 students that applied for EA, which is about the same as last year. Last year about 6,000 got in. Basically what I am saying is that if your in the middle 50% compared to last year, than you will most likely get in. But I am not sure because it is based on the applicant pool. Overall, the decisions come out on December 3rd, and you’ll find out then!

To striving4eva,
See this: https://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/high_school_counselors.html#10
If you are val. or sal. from an SACS accredited GA HS, you get in! See your guidance councilor.

I know that none of you can know for sure whether or not I’ll be getting into UGA this friday, but I just need some kind of advice as to whether or not I should be getting my hopes up. UGA is the only school I want to go to, and I just want to know if you guys think I have a good chance for getting in EA.

Here it goes…

I attend their #1 feeder school, Walton High School. 92/130 were accepted last year, mainly girls…They love Walton Students!

GPA: 3.8 unweighted (4.05 weighted, but I guess that doesn’t matter since they recalculate it :/)
I’ll have taken 6 AP courses at the end of senior year, as well as many difficult honors courses.
1960 SAT
28 ACT
Many leadership positions, community service, etc.

I know it’s cutting it close, but I have worked really, REALLY hard at everything I have done in my four years of high school. I want nothing more than to get in on Friday.

Sry girl…But Northview is their #1 feeder school. This year half the senior class has applied early action. (250 kids). Don’t use a flawed statistics (other posters…our schools are rival academic schools…in a way)

Regardless, your credentials look similar to mine. I expect the both of us to get in.

So will early action decisions be posted December 3rd when the status check site comes back up?

Yes, the admissions blog for UGA says that the EA decisions will be released tomorrow afternoon on the application status check.

Hi! Can somebody give me an idea of whether or not I can expect an acceptance letter from UGA?

I’m a Georgia resident. I’m a white male and a Junior in high school.

My Weighted GPA is a 3.8. My class rank is 26 of 372 as of right now. My grades throughout my high school career have been all A’s and B’s. I’m taking the SAT in June so I don’t have those scores.

By the end of my senior year, I will have taken 5 AP classes: AP U.S. History, AP Macroeconomics, AP U.S. Government, AP Literature, and AP Music Theory.

I’ve been in band since 5th grade and I’ve been in symphonic band since freshman year; I’ll be first chair next year. I’ve been in marching band since freshman year and I’ll be drum major next year. I’ll be attending UGA’s summer marching band camp this summer. I’ve been in BETA club for three years.

My career of interest is music. I plan on getting my doctorate in conducting or I plan on teaching at a university. I’m undecided.

Thanks!

So far, I’d say yes. You could probably even get in early decision (no essays!) But definitely keep your GPA up, stay heavily involved in two or three extracurriculars, and study for the SAT. If you don’t do as well on the SAT as you’d prefer, try the ACT. I did much better on that test when you compare the two scores.
