????What are my chances at UNC and Vanderbilt????

I am a junior at a public school in Tennessee. I would like to know my chances of getting into the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt.

Stats:
GPA: 3.95 unweighted
Top 10% of my class.
ACT: 26 (took it as a sophmore & hope to get a 30 or better next time)
No SAT

About 15 Honors classes and will have 5 APs by the end of my Senior year (my school only offers 6)

ECs:
Volunteering at Hospital in the summer
Work part time
Attended National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at UCLA
Will Attend TN Govenor's School for International Studies
International DECA Competitor
Lettered in Band, Bowling, Football
Writer for School Paper
Member of Mock Trial for 3 yrs.
Put together Battle of Bands charity event for INTERACT
Member of NHS
Member of BETA (state competitor with Quiz Bowl)
Member of DECA and FBLA
Received the Billy Mitchell Award in Civil Air Patrol and was the Cadet Commander of my local squadron. (equivalent of an Eagle Scout)
Will be shadowing a doctor during Spring Break

I am sure there are others...these are the ones I can remember.

I know a doctor who went to UNC who would write a good rec. and my Mom works at Vandy and has connections.

I would be majoring in Pre-med...

Please be honest and tell me what I need to work on...

Thanks!!!!

You’re definitely in the ballpark for both. With a 30 ACT and good essays I think you are in at UNC, and most likely in at Vandy.

With a 30:
vandy- high match
UNC- match

Yeah, just work on that ACT. You might want to try out the SAT 1 and see if you fare relatively better on that one than on the ACT.

BUMP…

I was also wondering about Duke, and maybe the University of California at LA (I have heard it is really hard to get in out of state)…any comments help!!!

You really have to have atleast a 32 to be somewhat competitive at Vanderbilt. A 33 would probably be the perfect score to have, though.

Your GPA is fine and continuing to be in the top 10% is VERY important to Vandy.

Right now, you can’t get into any of those schools with a 26.

Thanks Hilsa!!!

What about the other schools guys???

OOS for UNC is really harsh… a 30 would be extremely borderline (judging from the OOS thread)… 32+ to be really in the running (unless you have really tight connections). Duke and UCLA would also require the same standards, but your in the ball park.
