What are my chances at UT Austin ChemE?

Instate Texas resident. 4/4 unweighted gpa. 5.8 weighted gpa. Loads of ap classes. Good extracurrics. 2 subject tests (math2 and bio m) with 800s on both. 2210 sat (800 M, 720 CR, 690 WR). Will I make it into Cockrell for ChemE?? Also, what are my other reach schools. Please ask if you need other details to reach your conclusion.

Thank youuuu

It depends on your rank and percentile to make it into just UT. I think school rank depends on what major you get into. For example, if you are the valedictorian and another valedictorian apply for Cockrell, but you go to a better national acclaimed school, you are more likely to get in than the other person. Or so I think… at least that’s what my counselor told me.

I’m top 1% out of a class of 520~

You are in unless you mess something up.

@Torveaux‌ I’m currently in summer school trying to earn extra credit and boost my gpa.

Stop stressing. Unless you cross some illegal or immoral line that they find objectionable or you get kicked out of HS for something, (or don’t get your paperwork turned in on time, like my kid) you are in.

Awesome! Thanks for input! Lol

You should be able to get in if you apply early. Did you take Chemistry AP or SAT II?

I am taking Chem AP my senior year. I have taken SAT subject tests in Math 2 and Bio M @texaspg

Where are you with Calculus?

ChemE is a pretty tough major to get into. Don’t wait for deadlines when you are applying to UT or A&M because deadlines don’t mean much and seats get filled up.

I am taking BC Cal my senior year @texaspg

I agree that if you apply early it looks really good.

How early should I apply? @Lizardly My update class rank will only be available by September and apps open up August 1.

I’d say have everything ready to go when you can send an official transcript. Can you use end of junior year rank? Or is that what you waiting on? It sounds like you are high enough up in your class your exact rank won’t be crucial. In the meantime you can get your essays written and letters of rec rounded up if necessary. I was a lucky mom, not involved in the application process except to nag, and I think my kid sent in what he had in the fall. His rank wasn’t finalized until sometime in January, so whatever he sent was provisional.

I think October 1 would be plenty early. If you get your app in mid September, that would be great.

Awesome!! I am a contestant for valedictorian! I will be sure to apply early!! Thanks for the awesome advice!!!
